Position Overview: The Health Officer at Kimball Camp Outdoor Center plays a crucial role in ensuring the health and safety of all campers and staff. This position requires a dedicated and compassionate individual with medical expertise and the ability to handle emergency situations calmly and efficiently. The Health Officer is responsible for providing medical care, administering medications, and implementing health and safety protocols. This role also involves maintaining accurate health records, conducting health screenings, and educating staff on basic first aid and health care procedures.
Duties
- Provide medical care and first aid to campers and staff.
- Maintain and manage the camp's health center, including keeping accurate medical records.
- Administer medications as needed and according to physician instructions.
- Develop and implement health and safety protocols for the camp.
- Conduct health screenings for campers and staff upon arrival.
- Be on-call for medical emergencies during camp sessions.
- Communicate with parents/guardians about any health issues concerning their child.
- Train camp staff on basic first air and health care policies and procedures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the camp directors.
Requirements
- The Employee must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) or related medical certification required by Michigan's Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification.
- Experience in pediatric or camp health care preferred.
- Excellent conflict management skills and the ability to handle sensitive situations with discretion.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in various environments.
- Strong communication skills for effective interaction with diverse populations.
Work Conditions and Benefits
- Bi-weekly pay, room and board, and food during program days.
- The Employee shall reside on the camp premises for the duration of the camp sessions.
- The Employee is required to be on-call during Kimball Camp programming.
- The Employee shall have designated time off as agreed upon ahead of time.
