Job Title: Technical Writing Intern
Department: Product Development
Job Summary: As a Technical Writer at Kimberbell, you will play a vital role in creating clear, concise, and engaging documentation for our innovative line of sewing and embroidery products. Your responsibilities will include researching, writing, and editing user manuals, instructional guides, and online help documentation to assist our customers in using our products effectively. You will be responsible for meticulously arranging and organizing various elements within our embroidery and quilting patterns to ensure they are visually appealing and easy to follow for our customers. You will collaborate closely with product development teams to ensure accuracy and completeness of technical content, while also maintaining consistency with Kimberbell's brand voice and style guidelines. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, design creativity, and a passion for delivering high-quality, user-friendly documentation to support our growing community of crafters and enthusiasts.
Position Type:
- Part-time (15-25 hours per week)
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Writes and edits technical documents including embroidery and sewing instructions.
- Meets with product developers and embroidery digitizers to learn about specific products or processes.
- Research product samples to fully understand the product.
- Accepts and applies feedback from testers and editors to improve instructions.
- Make decisions about text sizes, styles, and fonts, including text spacing and arrangement.
- Resize, edit, correct, and/or crop images, photographs, and illustrations to improve the overall look and flow of step-by-step instructions.
- Create charts, PowerPoint presentations, and other visual aids to assist readers in understanding a product or process.
- May digitally illustrate concepts to be added to step-by-step directions using Adobe Illustrator or Adobe InDesign as needed.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- Working towards a bachelor's degree in English, Technical Writing, or related field required (experience may be considered in lieu of a degree).
- One year of related experience preferred.
- Sewing and Quilting experience is highly preferred.
- Proficiency in Adobe Suites, specifically InDesign, is highly preferred.
- Experience in Adobe Photoshop is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors).
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.

Throughout the day, you collaborate closely with designers, engineers, and other stakeholders to gather feedback and iterate on documentation drafts.
