The Route Supervisor is required to exercise discretion and act independently with respect to daily operations for the assigned shift, including personnel management, training, production, route assignments, safety and customer service.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED, some college preferred
  • Previous operations experience in the Trash industry preferred.
  • Previous administrative background with proficient usage of Microsoft Office, be extremely organized.
  • Valid CDL license with attached DOT Medical Card, preferred

Knowledge and Skills:

  • The ability to convey complex directions to employees
  • Language skills include the ability to analyze and communicate effectively, including but not limited to the ability to compose concise procedures, memos, and letters
  • Ability to speak and listen professionally, and to work with various people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent computer skills necessary; Microsoft Excel and Word proficiency required.
  • Use of computer-aided dispatching equipment required.
  • Advanced scheduling and dispatch experience required.
  • Reasoning Ability
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to draft and carry out detailed instructions. Ability to identify and deal with problems involving a variety of variables in random situations, including problem-solving.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

The requirements listed below constitute the minimum tasks necessary to perform this position and are considered essential job duties. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

General:

  • Route Book Data Entry.
  • Forefront (Spectrum) Entry.
  • Storage and Maintenance of records.
  • Route Book front covers & payroll.
  • Route Books.
  • Completed work orders.
  • Payroll verification and corrections on a daily basis for Operations and Shop.
  • Route Sequencing.
  • Update monthly credit card expense report bi-monthly.
  • Regular attendance consistent with the Company Attendance Policy.
  • Ability to set priorities and exercise independent judgment.
  • Ability to work well under the pressure of deadlines.
  • Ability to analyze data.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced multi-task office atmosphere.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information.
  • Professional demeanor requested.
  • Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Ability to track, determine and manage deadlines.
  • Ability to complete and prepare reporting forms.

Drivers:

  • Exercises discretion in assigning and supervising CDL drivers operating solid waste collection equipment on the assigned shift.
  • Monitors daily production of the assigned shift.
  • Ensures all drivers perform and complete daily activities with routes professionally and timely.
  • Reviews safety protocols such as missing logs/DMRs.
  • Reviews and validates Hours of Service for all drivers to ensure compliance with DOT regulations.
  • Manages reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol screens.

Customer Service:

  • Receive Payments
  • Set up new services.
  • Service inquiries for current customers.
  • Complaints/missed pickups.
  • Current customer account cleanup (validated account/geo-code, update service region).
  • Calls from drivers to answer questions on service status.
  • Create help routes as requested.
  • Print Daily work orders.
  • Update employee and route spreadsheet

Operations:

  • Exercises independent judgment in monitoring progress of daily operations and reassigns team members to accommodate business needs.
  • Conducts field inspections and audits of all assigned personnel to ensure proper work procedures are compliant with Company and other regulations.
  • Uses discretion to address customer complaints in a timely manner and reviewed with General Manager.
  • Dispatches drivers as needed for assigned areas.

Safety:

  • Oversees compliance programs, including but not limited to environmental, DOT and OSHA.
  • Investigates all incidents, completes incident reports and recommends and issues discipline.
  • Conducts pre- and post-trip route observations weekly/monthly.
  • Oversees Lock out/Tag out procedures.
  • Attends monthly safety meetings.
  • Monitors driver hours to verify compliance with DOT hour requirements.
  • Keep Red Tag Calendar for Manager and Supervisors.

Maintenance:

  • Supplies Maintenance Manager with Daily Route Matrix to ensure proper equipment needs are met daily.
  • Reviews schedule of routine repairs with Maintenance Manager.
  • Reviews DMRs with Maintenance Manager to ensure completion in a timely manner.
  • Partners with Maintenance Manager to review all DMRs and completed repairs to ensure completion, correctly and efficiently.
  • Administers and monitors audit program for the weekly inspections of fleet.

Training:

  • Partners with Operations Manager to develop training programs for team.
  • Ensures training programs are administered to new and existing team members to reduce turnover, maintenance costs, and to help reduce accidents.

Personnel:

  • Supervises assigned employees directly and indirectly on assigned shift.
  • Responsible for ensuring proper staffing on the assigned shift, which includes assisting with new hires and terminations of existing employees.
  • Supervise assigned employees to review and approve hours worked and vacation requests.
  • Manage assigned employees to ensure routes are completed properly and in a timely manner.
  • Independently exercises discretion to issue discipline and suspensions of assigned employees.
  • Makes independent hiring decisions for assigned shifts, including interviewing applicants and reviewing resumes.
  • Independently exercises discretion in issuing rewards to subordinates for superior work performance, consisting of gift cards, recognition and promotion recommendations.
  • Responsible for appraisal of employee performance, ensuring that all new hires receive 6 reviews in the first 90 days and other employees receive annual and bi-annual reviews.
  • Responsible for the rewarding and disciplinary actions of employees and addressing complaints.
  • Exercises discretion in assigning and transferring staff to various job assignments for the assigned shifts.
  • Recommends assigned employees for promotions.
  • Responsible for ensuring new drivers are properly trained.
