Overview
Kimley-Horn’s Boca-Delray, Florida (FL) office is seeking a Power Studies Engineer with 10 years experience to join their Electrical team. With a focus on serving clients within the power delivery and renewable energy sectors, the Power Studies Engineer will act as a technical expert in the design, analysis, and optimization of electrical power systems. This is not a remote position.
Responsibilities
Support the power electrical team to analyze systems, create software models, and write reports for power delivery or generation projects
Assist with project design, specifications, and plans support
Review work with quality in mind to confirm compliance with Kimley-Horn quality standards
Studies performed may include (per candidate experience):
Arc Flash, Short Circuit, and Coordination studies using ETAP or SKM
Load Flow / Reactive Power Analysis
Thermal Ampacity studies using software like AmpCalc or CYMCAP
Grounding studies using WinIGS, CDEGS, or SKM Ground Mat
Transient studies using PSS/E, PSCAD, or PSLF
Harmonic studies using ETAP or transient software
Relay setting development using SEL AcSELerator
Partner with the electrical team to create calculations and drawings for power delivery and/or renewable energy projects
Continually gain knowledge in industry
Qualifications
- 10 years’ experience as an Electrical Engineer for an engineering firm or EPC
- 1 years' project management experience
- EIT certification or path to move towards certification is preferred
- CYMCAP, SKM, ETAP, EMTP-RV, PSS/E, PSCAD, WinIGS, or CDEGS experience preferred
- Understanding or willing to learn, the NEC 2020 and IEEE standards and keep up with emerging technologies
- General understanding of engineering and energy systems
- Load Flow, Coordination, Short Circuit, and Arc Flash studies basic theory and methodology
- Proficiency using Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (AutoCAD)
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
- Ability to work and manage several project teams concurrently
- The ability to work independently or in a team environment effectively
- The ability to work in a fast-paced, challenging environment
