About the Position :
We are looking for an experienced Assistant Safety Director to oversee a team of 10 Site Safety Supervisors and play a pivotal role in shaping our safety culture. This leadership position will be responsible for ensuring that all safety protocols are consistently applied across our North Carolina operations. The Assistant Safety Director will work closely with senior management to enhance our safety policies and procedures, conduct site audits, and lead safety training programs. This position requires extensive travel throughout North Carolina and may require stepping into a Site Safety Manager role when necessary.
Key Responsibilities :
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of Site Safety Supervisors across various construction sites, ensuring the consistent implementation of safety protocols.
- Collaborate with senior management to continually enhance a proactive and positive safety culture across all projects.
- Develop and implement comprehensive safety policies and procedures tailored to each construction project.
- Conduct regular safety audits, site inspections, and risk assessments to identify areas for improvement.
- Oversee investigations of accidents / incidents, determine root causes, and ensure accurate reporting and implementation of corrective measures.
- Manage the budget for safety programs and equipment across multiple sites.
- Travel frequently throughout North Carolina (up to 33%) to visit project sites and provide updates on safety requirements and standards.
- Step in as Site Safety Manager when coverage is needed (e.g., during vacations, PTO, etc.).
- Prepare site-specific safety plans as required by specific projects.
Requirements :
Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and other safety standards applicable to heavy civil construction.
Ability to manage and coordinate safety operations across multiple sites.
