Title: Manager, Production Performance

The Philadelphia Orchestra and Ensemble Arts is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Manager, Production Performance. The individual in this position is responsible for the safe and efficient execution of performances related to Ensemble Arts Philly and The Philadelphia Orchestra presentations. The individual in this position is a member of a close-knit team who supports the Director of Production in oversight of Production Operations at The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, the Miller Theater, and the Academy of Music.
Essential Functions:
- Supervise production elements for performances and events within The Kimmel Center, Academy of Music and Miller Theater with primary focus on evening and weekend presentations.
- Oversee the intake and communication of event information, prepare cost estimates, hire and supervise vendors, and manage post-event settlements.
- Collaborate effectively with POEA colleagues, resident companies, independent presenters, visiting designers and artists to plan, budget, and realize presentations and events.
- Understand and administer IATSE Stagehand, IATSE Wardrobe and Teamsters CBA’s and resident company license agreements.
- Communicate directly and effectively with artists, musicians, touring staff, external clients and organizational leadership.
- Collaborate proactively with POKC Operations teams, including Audience Experience, Security, Facility Sales, Engineering, and Team Clean.
- Supervise backstage operations in high volume, multidisciplinary performance spaces with an exclusively organized labor workforce.
- Plan and oversee production elements for external wedding events.
- Manage back-of-house artist spaces, including dressing rooms, greenrooms, visiting production offices, kitchenettes, and laundry rooms.
- Serve as a performance liaison with resident companies, including PCMS, COP, Opera Philadelphia, Philadelphia Ballet, Curtis Institute of Music and Philadanco.
- Coordinate and supervise the use of space and materials to enhance the guest and artist experience.
- Communication of Production staffing schedules to POKC departments and resident companies and assist Director of Production with part time department staffing.
- Provide administrative support to the Production department, including Director of Production.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in technical theater or equivalent experience required.
- 5 years of experience in stage management or production management in a similar environment required.
- Experience in supporting and producing production elements for corporate, non-profit and private events.
- Demonstrable experience with organized labor and collective bargaining agreements including IATSE.
- Experience with multidisciplinary art forms, including theater and musical presentations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Highly developed theatrical production, administrative, and organizational skills.
- Strong stage management background with a depth of understanding in sound reinforcement, theatrical lighting, rigging and staging.
- Excellent written and verbal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite including advanced Excel skills.
- Experience in theatrical management software such as Ungerboeck, ArtsVision or equivalent preferred.
- Ability to interact effectively with and clearly communicate information to a wide range of diverse individuals, including vendors and clients, both within and outside of the organization.
- Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, set priorities, and respond effectively to shifting needs.
Environment, Physical Demands, and Other Conditions:
- Work schedule primarily includes nights and weekends.
- Responsibilities span multiple venues and buildings.
- Ability to stand, climb, walk up to 5 hours, and use repetitive motions.
- Ability to lift, push, and move up to 25-50 pounds.
- While performing the duties of this position the employee will be required to work indoors, outdoors, in loud environments, and in areas with minimal lighting.
