Position Description
The primary function is to perform daily surveillance of the company’s natural gas pipeline systems. Responsible for the company damage prevention program including performing and coordinating work group activities, patrolling, locating, construction inspection and excavation inspection of pipelines and facilities.

The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed. This position is subject to random drug testing as required by the DOT.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Locate and mark facilities per company damage prevention program and one-call procedures prior to and during encroachments and excavation.
- Perform pipeline patrols, population density surveys, leak detection surveys and inspections per company procedures.
- Coordinate local damage prevention activities.
- Responsible for providing oversight and inspection of projects primarily relating to excavation near pipeline facilities to ensure asset protection and compliance with company procedures.
- Responsible for inspection of projects.
- Responsible for completion of all required documentation such as site photographs, project tickets and as-built drawings.
- Perform mapping, record keeping, and data entry duties per company policies.
- Act as the company representative during construction activities, report progress to operations and project manager to ensure proper reporting and compliance with safety and environmental policies.
- Represent the Company during contacts with landowner/tenants, public officials/emergency officials and at local meetings. (One Call, Pipeline Groups, Soil Conservation, USFS, etc.)
- Train and oversee company and third party personnel as required (i.e. personnel in progression, transport drivers, contractors and visitors).
- Perform governmental compliance activities (PHMSA, State Agencies, EPA, USFS, etc.)
- Proactively identify report and correct safety and environmental concerns.
- Actively participate in safety programs and initiatives.
- Participate in the development of O&M Procedures, site specific procedures, project scope and work plans.
- Abide by all damage prevention program including one-calls, right of way inspections and investigations, maintenance and third party crossings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Experience:
- Must have experience in reading construction drawings.
- Must have general construction safety knowledge.
- Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) or similar required.
- Understanding of environmental and PHMSA regulations preferred.
- Knowledge of right of way, pipeline damage prevention, pipeline locating equipment and materials preferred.
- Experience in the operation, maintenance and construction of transmission gas pipeline, facilities and system operations preferred.
- Knowledge of operating costs and best practices associated with equipment in area of responsibility preferred.
- Knowledge and experience in safety requirements involving flammable gas and liquid facilities in both high and low pressure systems, electrical transmission, fiber optic cables or any other facilities potentially found underground highly preferred.
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalency of.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and driving record satisfactory to the Company and its insurers.
- Will be required to obtain and maintain all company and regulatory required Operator Qualifications.
- Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks are essential.
- Basic computer skills (knowledge of MS Office, various operating systems, and other company software).
- Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals).
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with both internal and external customers.
- Must be able to work with a team, take direction from supervisor(s), prioritize work schedule, focus attention on details, and follow rules.
- Prior on-call work experience helpful.
- Must be able to withstand extreme weather and temperature climates.
- Can meet the physical demands of standing, walking, sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, twisting, climbing, balancing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, tasting/smelling, near and far acuity, depth perception, color vision and field of vision.
- Depending upon location and workload, travel will be required.
- Ability to navigate uneven surfaces to and from vehicle and site work, transmission line patrol requiring walking distances up to miles in all terrains, in all types of weather.
- Able to work in areas with limited access, cramped or confined spaces.
- On a routine basis, may climb ladders, walkways and scaffolds.
