Kindering is dedicated to maintaining a highly trained, licensed and certified team of professionals. Current services include comprehensive developmental assessments; physical, occupational, speech, language, and infant mental health therapy; special education; family counseling; nutrition and feeding therapy; childcare consultation; parenting education; and family resource coordination.

Purpose

Do you have a passion for raising funds to support children from a diverse range of backgrounds, and their families and caregivers?

The Grant Writers primary responsibility is successfully managing a strong portfolio of funders and the full cycle of grant management including facilitating and administering an efficient and cost-effective process of procuring funds from and maintaining productive relationships with grant-making sources. The Grant Writer will lead efforts to identify, approach, cultivate and complete applications for funds from a range of foundations, corporations and government entities. Upon grant award, the grant writer will partner with contributors and implementation leads across Kindering for successful grant implementation and subsequent reporting.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Provide and execute comprehensive strategies for optimal grants management, compliance and reporting of received grants/contracts.
• Partner with Director of Grants in agency-wide grants strategies including planning, writing, implementation and reporting.
• Partner with Kindering staff across the organization for successful full-cycle grants including collaborative writing, visioning and grant completion.
• Develop a keen understanding of current programs, goals, strategies and financial needs.
• Manage a portfolio of approximately 75 foundation, corporate and government grantors with full range of responsibilities, including leading and writing assigned grant requests and corresponding reports annually.
• Partner with Director of Grants to raise $2.25 million or more annually in grants.
• Research and identify new funding sources relevant to Kinderings mission and program offerings.
• Work with Leadership Team and managers to develop and implement programs/projects from grant opportunities or awards.
• Assure contract and reporting compliance (including completing grants reports) for assigned portfolio of grants through training and engaging implementation and support staff, as necessary, on grant requirements to obtain support documents for requests and subsequent reports.
• Remain current on giving trends through continuing education and participation in professional organizations.
• Assist with other projects and duties as directed.

Required Education & Experience

• Educational requirements: B.A./B.S. degree in business, English, nonprofit management, journalism or similar coursework.
• 5 years of practical, high-achievement, hands-on experience in a nonprofit grant-seeking program.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Practical experience in building, understanding and explaining nonprofit budgets to others.
• Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and grant research tools; experience with nonprofit fund-development databases.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects, meet multiple, often conflicting, deadlines and enjoy a fast-paced, ever changing work environment.
• Enthusiastic team player who is collegial, respectful of others, eager to meet collective goals and help others succeed.
• Significant experience navigating systems of oppression or a sophisticated understanding of systemic oppression in areas such as dis/ability, neurodiversity, race, socioeconomic/class, gender identity and expression.
• Demonstrated success in partnering with people from historically marginalized backgrounds or in learning through a strong existing practice of cultural humility.

Minimum Prerequisites

• Pass Washington State DSHS (Department of Social and Health Services) criminal history and background check and FBI fingerprint check.
• Demonstrate organizational skills, ability to follow through on assignments on time and with accuracy, provide clear written and verbal communication, keep up-to-date written and electronic documentation
• Strictly maintain confidentiality of all client information.
• Access to reliable transportation.
• Demonstrate proficiency in using MS Office.
• Pass tuberculosis test.
• Ability to show proof of current immunizations, including COVID-19 and MMR vaccine or titer test*
