Description :
The Kindezi Certified Special Education Substitute Teacher delivers and manages student instruction and learning through lesson plans from the absent teacher, school leadership, and / or the department / grade level chairperson. They are consistent and dependable with classroom management to ensure the safety of students at all times.
Reports to : Assistant Principal and Principal
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES :
The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following essential functions :
Maintains and respects confidentiality of student and school personnel information;
Maintains discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive learning environment for all students and staff in accordance with school and county policies;
Ensures the adequate supervision to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students;
Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities;
Reports to office upon arrival at school; checks mailbox of absent teacher for materials requiring immediate attention; requests clarification of school rules and procedures, if necessary;
Reports all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible;
Implements lesson plans, while ensuring the integrity of academic time and in a manner which motivates students to learn and participate;
Employs various teaching techniques, methods and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP goals.
Provides research-based specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each student’s IEP
Organizes students for effective instruction;
Dismisses all students from the classroom before leaving the building;
Collects and places students’ papers in regular teacher’s desk;
Returns instructional materials, equipment, and keys to proper place;
Complies with and supports school and state regulations and policies;
Performs other related duties as assigned by building administrator(s) in accordance with school / state policies and practices.
Professionalism
Substitute in classrooms when lead teachers are absent
Following the daily academic schedule as set by classroom teachers
Maintaining a classroom environment that is respectful and conducive to students learning and reporting concerns to school administration
Enforcing established health and safety requirements
Providing positive behavior support to students as needed
Providing technical assistance to students while they are engaged in learning
Physical Demands
Duties performance typically in school settings to include : classrooms, gymnasium, cafeteria, auditorium, and recreational areas.
Frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting,
Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
Visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.
The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise and hazards. Occasional movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required.
Regular instruction to special needs children may be necessary.
Daily personal and close contact with children to provide classroom management and learning environment support is required on assigned days.
Regular contact with other staff members and building administrator(s) is required on assigned days as a substitute.

Requirements :
Active Level 4 teacher certification issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission in Special Education or have reciprocity eligibility with certification in another state in Special Education
QUALIFICATIONS :
Be a United States citizen or otherwise have authorization to work in the United States
Have the ability to pass an Atlanta Public Schools background check
Be able to obtain a GaPSC-issued clearance certificate
Knowledge / training in restorative practices, crisis management and de-escalation strategies are strongly preferred
2 years of experience working with elementary and / or middle school students preferred
COMPENSATION / BENEFITS :
Substitute Teacher $200.00 per day
Long Term Requirements : $240 per day
An assignment is considered “Long Term” when a substitute works in the same assignment for 20 consecutive days.
ALL of the following criteria must be met :
The substitute must work 20 consecutive days in the same assignment.
The substitute must qualify for a Georgia Teaching certificate.
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to comprehend and follow directives
The substitute’s certification must match the certification required for the assignment.
