Duties
- Review and analyze patient records to ensure accurate coding of diagnoses and procedures using ICD-9, DRG, and other relevant coding systems.
- Process medical billing claims to insurance companies and follow up on outstanding claims to ensure timely payment.
- Maintain accurate medical records by updating patient information and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify any discrepancies in documentation or coding.
- Manage medical collections by contacting patients regarding outstanding balances and setting up payment plans when necessary.
- Stay current with changes in medical billing regulations and coding practices to ensure compliance and accuracy.
- Assist in training new staff on billing procedures and coding standards as needed.
Experience
- Previous experience in a behavioral health environment is preferred, with a focus on medical billing and coding.
- Accurately code and bill for behavioral health services using current CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes.
- Verify patient insurance coverage and obtain pre-authorizations as needed.
- Follow up on unpaid claims and work with insurance companies to resolve billing issues.
- Proficiency in medical terminology is essential for effective communication within the healthcare setting.
- Familiarity with various coding systems, including ICD-9, DRG, and other relevant classifications is required.
