Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and experienced Veterinary Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for animal care and the ability to assist veterinarians in providing high-quality medical treatment to a variety of animals in an urgent care setting. The Veterinary Technician will play a crucial role in ensuring the health and well-being of our patients while providing support to pet owners.

Expected Work Schedule:

  • 11hr shifts (primarily Thursday and Friday)

Primary Responsibilities of all KindVet of Sarasota Urgent Care Employees:

All Employees, both medical and non-medical, shall be upheld to the following responsibilities.

  • Demonstrate genuine concern for the needs of our patients and their owners and use effective and efficient communication.
  • Utilize excellent verbal and written communication skills, including basic computer literacy.
  • Maintain the physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work on his/her feet all day, and the cognitive ability to multitask.
  • Follow all federal and state health laws, including OSHA and DEA regulations. Inform management or the attending veterinarian of any regulatory issues.
  • Remain current on technical knowledge of products and medications sold, including the ability to explain and educate owners on proper use of the products and medications.
  • Understand that working in veterinary medicine includes inherent risks, such as direct interaction with unfamiliar animals, exposure to x-rays and anesthetic gasses. Proper protective measures will be provided and utilized as needed.
  • Familiar with basic knowledge of all hospital functions in addition to specialized responsibilities as defined by a specific position.

Primary Responsibilities of a Veterinary Technician:

This list is not exhaustive and should be considered the minimum requirements for a veterinary technician.

  • Obtain and record adequate and relevant patient histories.
  • Triage patients, obtain and record vital signs upon arrival.
  • Clearly and thoroughly discuss estimates and treatment plans with owners.
  • Collect specimens/samples and perform routine laboratory procedures and tests as ordered by the attending veterinarian.
  • Assist in diagnostic, medical, and surgical procedures using a range of high-tech equipment.
  • Take and process radiographs, including submitting images to third party companies for review.
  • Dispense and administer medications and other treatments as prescribed by the attending veterinarian.
  • Administer fluids as prescribed by the attending veterinarian.
  • Provide individualized nursing care for injured or sick animals.
  • Prepare patients, instruments, and equipment for surgery.
  • Maintain that all monitoring and support equipment are in good working order. Equipment includes but is not limited to anesthesia machines, cardiac monitors, and thermal support.
  • Administer and monitor anesthesia safely under the direction of the attending veterinarian.
  • Clean, maintain, and sterilize instruments, equipment and materials.
  • Educate owners and clearly communicate on proper administration of medications, post-visit care instructions, and answer questions pertaining to the specific condition of the patient.
  • Work well with all employees and uphold the high standards of care at KindVet Urgent Care of Sarasota.
  • Working knowledge of the medical record software.
  • Perform other reasonable duties as assigned.

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 11 – 33 per week
