SUMMARY:
A Purchasing Manager in the oil and gas industry is responsible for strategically sourcing, negotiating, and procuring essential materials, equipment, and services required for oil and gas operations, ensuring cost-effectiveness, quality standards, and timely delivery while maintaining strong supplier relationships, adhering to industry regulations, and managing inventory levels within the context of project needs and market fluctuations; key duties include identifying reliable suppliers, evaluating bids, negotiating contracts, monitoring supplier performance, and collaborating with internal stakeholders to optimize procurement processes across the oil and gas supply chain.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Sourcing:
- Identify and evaluate potential suppliers based on quality, price, reliability, and compliance with industry standards.
- Conduct market research to identify new suppliers and stay updated on industry trends and pricing fluctuations.
- Develop and execute procurement strategies to optimize costs and ensure long-term availability of critical materials.
Contract Negotiation:
- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, delivery schedules, and contract terms with suppliers to secure favorable agreements.
- Review and approve contracts, ensuring compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
Supplier Relationship Management:
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers, including regular performance reviews and addressing issues promptly.
- Monitor supplier performance against contractual obligations, including quality, delivery timeframes, and cost.
Procurement Process Management:
- Oversee the entire procurement process from requisition generation to purchase order issuance and delivery.
- Manage purchase orders, expediting critical items, and resolving any procurement issues.
Inventory Control:
- Analyze inventory levels and demand patterns to optimize stock levels and minimize carrying costs.
- Implement inventory management strategies to prevent stockouts and overstocking.
Compliance and Risk Management:
- Ensure compliance with all relevant industry regulations, safety standards, and ethical procurement practices.
- Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with supplier selection and procurement activities.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with project teams, engineering departments, and operations to understand material requirements and project timelines.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders regarding procurement status, potential challenges, and cost implications.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Degree in Supply Chain Management, or a related field or 10 years working experience supply chain
- Proven experience in procurement within the oil and gas industry
- Strong negotiation and contract management skills
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations
- Proficiency in procurement software and ERP systems
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities
