Essential Duties And Responsibilities
The Electrical Construction Project Specialist directly performs and oversees the work necessary to successfully execute the electrical portion of construction and maintenance projects with a primary focus on capital expenditures.
- Acts as the on-site electrical subject matter expert and liaison between engineering, maintenance, and contractors/vendors.
- Focuses on electrical systems, electrical technology and the electrical power equipment associated with projects by re-viewing project electrical documents and specifications, performing field assessments of electrical equipment and electrical systems and addressing specific electrical issues/questions as required thereby providing feedback to and in close collaboration with engineering/construction group personnel and the I&E Project Supervisor.
- Utilizes electrical expertise to assist engineering personnel with electrical equipment cost analysis providing options and feedback to optimize cost savings and to further project goal attainment.
- Provides recommendations to the I&E Director, I&E Project Supervisor, and engineering/construction group personnel with the goal of facilitating a consistent application of electrical technology and standards across the organization.
- Assists with electrical equipment and systems start-up/commissioning as needed.
- Actively participates in the PSM process.
- Participates in project meetings and needed.
- Works closely with Project Engineers and Construction Managers to achieve project goals.
- Ensures electrical portion of project work is executed correctly and in compliance with applicable standards.
- Reviews and provides constructive feedback to project engineers/managers and the I&E Project Supervisor on project related documentation such as electrical one-line diagrams, electrical equipment specifications/drawings, power coordination studies, arc flash hazard analyses, load lists and load analyses, panel schedules, cable schedules, grounding plans, hazardous area classification plans, motor starting studies, lighting plans, electrical equipment testing reports, sub-station drawings, and detail drawings.
- Makes and communicates to affected departments/groups corrections to project documents as required.
- Responsible for maintaining or overseeing the maintenance of the records for the electrical portion of projects as assigned.
- Assists I&E Director, I&E Project Supervisor and Engineering department in adopting and developing standards and procedures as it pertains to electrical construction.
- Responsible to stay up to date on technology and techniques as it relates to the electrical field in our industry.
- Provides costs as needed for budgetary planning.
- Provides project instrumentation and automation work and oversight as needed and in conjunction with primary duties.
- Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.

- High school diploma or GED is required
- Minimum of an associates in Electrical & Controls technology, engineering, project management or related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience participating in capital projects with a strong operations & maintenance background in electrical and controls systems.
- Available outside of normal working hours as needed for business necessity
- Bi-lingual Spanish/English is a plus
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external parties.
- Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook).
- Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary service.
- Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, follows prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
- Field work will involve walking and standing on rough terrain with uneven and slippery surfaces.
- The noise level in the work environment is generally quiet to moderate but may regularly require exposure to loud noises from machinery.
- Will be required to regularly drive to other field facilities within their assigned region.
- Will regularly use a computer to create, record, store, revise and save documentation needed to perform their role.
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
- Ability to work effectively in all working conditions noted above.
- Able to lift and carry up to 25-50 lbs. in a safe manner.
- Ability to talk, listen and speak clearly on a telephone and in-person.
