About the Role:
We seek a hands-on Senior Controller to work with this family-owned distribution company. This role will lead the company’s accounting and administrative functions. This is a full-time, in-office role requiring 40-45 hours per week, with additional time as needed for special projects, period closings, and busy periods. The ideal candidate is highly professional, possesses strong financial expertise, and has experience with working with closely held teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Accounting & Reporting:
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports in compliance with GAAP.
- Oversee daily accounting functions, including bank reconciliations, A/P, A/R, and the general ledger.
- Responsible for cash flow management, sales tax filing, and financial statement preparation.
- Collaborate with external CPA firms for tax filings and corporate reporting.
Internal Controls & Compliance:
- Establish and maintain financial controls to ensure accurate reporting and asset protection.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including tax filings.
- Develop and implement financial policies to enhance efficiency and compliance.
Payroll & Benefits Administration:
- Process bi-weekly payroll, including commissions, and ensure accuracy.
- Manage employee benefits, including 401(k), health insurance, and PTO tracking.
- Oversee 401(k) administration in partnership with a third-party administrator.
Cash Flow & Treasury Management:
- Monitor cash flow to maintain working capital and ensure timely collections and payments.
- Prepare cash flow reports and forecasts to support financial decision-making.
- Manage customer billing, credit evaluations, and payment terms.
Inventory & Managerial Accounting:
- Oversee inventory accounting, reconciliations, and management processes.
- Analyze sales, profitability, and cost reports to support business operations.
- Monitor inventory transactions, including purchases, receipts, and write-offs.
Corporate Administration:
- Handle company insurance policies, including business, health, and workers’ compensation.
- Oversee certain HR-related functions, including benefits administration and compliance.
- Manage commercial vehicle compliance, including registration and DOT filings.
Strategic & Operational Initiatives:
- Collaborate with leadership on growth initiatives and process improvements.
- Conduct benchmarking and market research to support strategic planning.
- Provide financial insights and projections for decision-making.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred.
- 8-12 years of experience in accounting or finance, with at least 5 years in a senior role.
- Experience managing small teams in a distribution or retail business preferred.
- Strong understanding of tangible inventory in a traditional product based sales environment.
- Proficiency in MS Office. Experience with NetSuite ERP preferred. Strong technological aptitude required.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
