The King County Library System is seeking a Photo & Video Content Strategist to create compelling visual content that showcases the library’s programs, events, initiatives, and community impact across various platforms. 

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
  • Tell stories through high-quality photo images and video 
  • Ensure visual content is accessible, well-organized, and aligned with brand standards
  • Collaborate with library staff to elevate communications and marketing strategies

Approximately 1,000 engaged and passionate staff provide service in 50 community library locations and patron engagement using direct outreach, programs, and virtual assistance. Our service area includes cities, towns, tribal lands, and unincorporated districts of King County, with the exception of the city of Seattle.

  • Collaborates with department strategists to identify, prioritize, and generate visual content ideas for events, campaigns, and special projects of focus that contribute to communications and marketing strategy.
  • Captures photo images and video content to document and promote library activities and initiatives for internal, external, and public communication use.
  • Produces and edits videos and photo images for various outlets, including but not limited to print products, social media and other online channels, and high-definition broadcast.
  • Coordinates shoot schedules, timelines, and other logistics.
  • Creates storyboards or visual outlines for projects to ensure clear storytelling and effective messaging.
  • Obtains and organizes image release forms from patron photo/video subjects.
  • Manages KCLS digital asset management system and photo archives in coordination with Graphics, utilizing names, permissions, and keyword tags for efficient and appropriate access. Develops a library of stock photography and video assets for future KCLS use.
  • Oversees and maintains equipment inventory (e.g., backgrounds, cameras, lighting). Recommends equipment enhancements.
  • Ensures visual content adheres to KCLS brand standards and meets accessibility standards.
  • Participates in tracking engagement metrics and assessing the impact of visual content on various platforms to inform future projects and improve effectiveness.

Secondary Duties

Education and Experience

The items listed below are the minimum requirements for the job and are relevant to this position. The organization values both work experience and education and realizes that individuals take different paths to acquire knowledge.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Five years’ experience in a professional photography and videography setting, including production, editing, and event organization.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the necessary qualifications to successfully perform the duties of the position will be considered.

Knowledge and Skills
  • Professional video production, including lighting and audio.
  • Video editing, including mastering and color correction using various software.
  • Professional photography production, including candid, still, portrait, and photojournalism.
  • Advanced knowledge of photo/video cameras and optics systems.
  • Working knowledge of digital asset management.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative suite.
  • Skills to prioritize work and handle various tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Skills to project manage and meet personal and team deadlines.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Flexible and adaptive to changing needs.
  • Demonstrated collaboration with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

Professional Licenses and Certifications
  • A valid Washington State driver’s license is required.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will:

  • Occasionally sit throughout work shift and will frequently stand and walk.

  • Frequently reach out at chest level with hands and arms and occasionally reach up or down.

  • Constantly use hands in conjunction with finger use. Keyboarding may be repetitive up to frequently.

  • Occasionally bend or stoop at the waist or squat and crouch.
  • Change tasks depending upon the shift.

  • Require extensive close work including use of a computer monitor.

  • Occasionally operate foot controls. Frequently and carry lift up to 10 lbs., occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. and carry up to 35 lbs., and seldom carry up to 50 lbs.

  • Frequently push or pull carts and wheeled equipment with light force and occasionally up to moderate force.

Work Environment
Work is performed in a typical office environment and in the library and community for engagement activities. Work may be performed outdoors. Work schedule may include occasional evening and/or weekend meetings or commitments. Extensive travel within the service area is required. Incumbent may be permitted hybrid telework schedule upon request.

Salary : $88,035 - $107,007
