The Sexual & Reproductive Health Program is a nationally recognized provider of sexual and reproductive health services, including birth control, pregnancy testing with options counseling and referrals, sexually transmitted infection services, and breast and cervical cancer screenings. We offer high quality, confidential care to all members of our community regardless of ability to pay.
The Sexual & Reproductive Health Clinic is looking for a skilled, motivated and enthusiastic Medical Assistant who is committed to a team approach, serving men, women and teens to provide high quality sexual and reproductive health and education services. The Medical Assistant works as a paraprofessional performing delegated patient care functions under the clinical direction of an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) and under the supervision of a Personal Health Services Supervisor (PHSS) or site manager. Medical Assistants work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary clinic team that interacts with the public and community partners, while delivering quality healthcare services to racially, ethnically, and socio economically diverse populations. Medical Assistants perform administrative support duties, conduct education and outreach activities, research various topics and information, conduct assessments, and are expected to regularly adapt their role/tasks in order to maximize clinic efficiency and flow. The primary focus of this position is providing sexual and reproductive care including: birth control, options counseling, abortion referrals, and STD diagnosis and treatment to patients. Additional duties vary and can include: immunizations, phlebotomy, medication administration, injections, and data entry.
Temporary opportunity. Term-Limited Temporary positions are "at-will" positions but are eligible for benefits. This TLT is currently anticipated to last 12 months (1 year). However, funding sources for this work remain uncertain and dependent upon decisions actively being made at both the federal and local levels. As a result, the end date of this position may be adjusted based on those decisions. The County and the Department continue to work to secure long term funding sources.
This vacancy can also be filled as a Special Duty opportunity. For Special Duty Assignment interest, you must be a Career Service, Career Service Exempt or other regular (non-temporary) employee in King County who has completed their initial County probation. You must have supervisor approval prior to taking a Special Duty Assignment.

Work Schedule
This is a Term Limited Temporary/Special Duty Assignment, 0.8 FTE = 32 hours a week.
This position has a regular schedule of Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00p.m. However, in an effort to meet our clients' needs, this position will be required to work outside these hours and may include Saturday hours.
Work Location
This position will rotate between the following clinics Federal Way Public Health Center located at 33431 13th Pl. S., Federal Way, 98003; Kent Public Health Center located at 25742 104th Ave SE at, Kent, 98030; and Auburn Public Health Center located at 901 Auburn Way N. Auburn, 98002. However, in an effort to meet our clients' needs, this position may be required to work at various Public Health Centers and sites throughout King County.
Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.

Job Duties
- Assist providers with patient care and coordinate efficient clinic flow by promptly rooming patients.
- As directed by ARNP, perform and process blood draws, administer medication and collect specimens.
- Interview and accurately record client's medical, dietary, social history, anthropometric and lab results, and accurately enter patient information into electronic health record, health information tracking systems, and chronic disease registries.
- Provide health care education regarding reproductive health, emergency contraception and pregnancy options, including abortion referral through individual instruction and written materials to clinic clients.
- Able to travel to different King County Clinics during the day *if needed*
- As directed by ARNP, phone in prescriptions to pharmacies, schedule follow¬-up appointments and refer patients for specialty and/or follow-¬up care as needed.
- Monitor, request, stock, and clean routine clinic supplies, maintain safety and cleanliness of examination/treatment rooms and laboratory areas. This may include some bending, lifting, reaching, stooping, and moving objects weighing 35 pounds.
- Utilize clinic practice management software to assist with scheduling, registering, and checking in patients for appointments.
- Attend training and respond to emergency situations within the clinic supporting health care providers and emergency personnel.
- Perform pre-visit planning activities, attend huddles.
- Assist with procedures.
- Administer vaccines, and single dose medications via the following routes; oral, subcutaneous, intradermal, intramuscular, intranasal.
- Perform CLIA waived lab tests.
- Provide coverage for other MA absences.
- Properly donning and doffing PPE
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
- Must possess current certification as a Medical Assistant, Certified from Washington State Department of Health. You will not be considered for this position if you not possess this certification.
- Must have documentation of current BLS CPR certification with AED training required at time of hire – CPR/AED Heartsaver courses do not meet this requirement.
- The ability to do basic mathematics including basic calculations, convert fractions and decimals, graph anthropometrics, and all with a high degree of accuracy.
- Knowledge of Medical Assistant skills including phlebotomy and related laboratory and clinical procedures, medical terminology, vital signs, and immunizations.
- Knowledge of asepsis and universal precautions, State and Federal guidelines regarding laboratory safety, handling and/or disposing of biohazards and specimens.
- The ability to engage and educate clients on health care maintenance and prevention.
- The ability to effectively communicate (oral and written) including with clients, co-workers, supervisors, health care providers and the public.
- The ability to effectively communicate with non-English speaking clients utilizing interpreters when necessary.
- The ability to effectively collaborate in a team environment.
- The ability to rapidly set priorities in a changing environment, identify problems, make decisions within the scope of the position, implement appropriate actions or solutions, and seek additional information when necessary.
