The King County’s Facilities Management Division (FMD), Real Estate Services (RES) Section has a Special Duty Assignment role within Property Management Unit (PMU) available to current Career Service Employees within King County. This role will be responsible for property management services to include, but not limited to, greenbelts and tax titles. This role manages property service needs from intake through resolution. This includes screening requests (determine validity, agency responsibility, priority) then drive actions needed to resolve the request independently and/or collaboratively with external/internal agencies.
This position is expected to last up to 6 months and is a great opportunity for someone interested in learning more about the Real Estate Services Section and the cross-functional services between FMD sections.

Job Duties
- Customer Service & Resolution – Screen internal/external customers, identify service needs, and provide resolution paths while ensuring the accuracy and completeness of received information.
- Information & Guidance – Provide relevant program-specific details, including policies, procedures, and regulations, through various communication channels. Research, evaluate and compile data concerning property management; assist with market analyses and escalate recommendations for King County property. Read, write, interpret and apply legal descriptions.
- Records & Property Management – Maintain and update records of County-owned land, leases, easements, and properties, including tracking financial documentation. Identify property ownership through title searches and research of property records and archives.
- Property Concerns & Compliance – Address property-related issues (e.g., vegetation hazards, illegal dumping, unauthorized use), interpret records for resolution, and escalate concerns with summarized recommendations. Perform property leasing duties in collaboration with internal and external agencies which include the preparation for, or assistance in managing County leases.
- Collaboration & System Management – Monitor and update shared email accounts, folders, and software tools while referencing multiple record-keeping sources for resolution.
- Site Assessments & Training – Conduct site walks, property surveys, perform assessments, and provide technical assistance or training to colleagues and customers on relevant services and procedures. Consult with attorneys, engineers and other experts regarding the impact of property maintenance.
- Financial Management - Assist in the preparation and management of budget, forecasting, and general financial tracking. Guide vendors on invoicing procedures, request and review quotes, and cross-reference service status against invoice cost.
- Streamline Processes and Procedures - Work independently and/or collaboratively to provide recommendations to more senior, supervisor and/or managerial level positions regarding property management unit goals/objectives, standard operating procedures, and budget/schedule/scope. Implement recommendations as applicable and track successes and opportunities.
- Inventory Familiarity - Identify surplus properties suitable for sale and execute marketing plan; prepare or assist in preparing and conducting public real property sales; evaluate sealed bids and other offers and initiate invoices or payments.
- Landlord/Tenant Liaison - Give input for needs assessment for County agencies leased space; negotiate with land and/or building owners for the use of their real property and resolution of tenant issues; conduct in-depth review and negotiate tenant improvement costs and projected expense increases.
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Excellent customer service skills via in-person, phone, and electronic and written communication
- Experience reading, interpreting, and applying legal documents i.e. vendor contracts and lease agreements
- Experience requesting, reviewing, interpreting vendor quotes/estimates
- High level of organization and records management experience
- Exceptional problem-solving skills
- Experience with Microsoft Software, specifically Outlook, Teams, Excel, and OneNote
- Familiarity and willingness to learn GIS, CoStar, and Maximo software
- Real Estate, Property Management, Transition Management, and/or Facilities Management knowledge is preferred, but not required
