About the Role:
This role is an integral part of our operations team - leading a crew of Short Term Temporaries to manage vegetation and to mow King County’s stormwater facilities to King County Maintenance Standards. As a Supervisor I, this position will be a leader, planning and implementing programmatic work while providing oversight and direction to other members of the team. There will also be programmatic assistance to other Asset Management Unit Programs. Assistance will be in the form of working with program managers in handling vegetation complaint issues on Residential, Regional, and WLRD Properties/Facilities.
This position requires the successful applicant to have the skills and knowledge to independently identify and develop maintenance plans by identifying or assessing potential vegetation control measures or other related vegetation problems. This includes handling of Hazard Trees, identification and proper removal of noxious weeds. This position will also be required to work with and have a general knowledge and understanding of various equipment both in operation and in maintenance, including all necessary safety standards required. Other work related to this position will include route planning, crew management including admin. This position requires field work year-round, in inclement weather and in aquatic environments.
This position performs work remotely and onsite/field.

This position resides within the Asset Management Unit (AMU). AMU is comprised of a dedicated team of high-performing engineers and program managers charged with managing and maintaining King County‘s Stormwater assets and infrastructure. AMU manages its assets to established maintenance standards while ensuring compliance with all local and federal permits (NPDES).

Remote and Onsite Work Details:
Employees in this role work remotely from a home location, with onsite reporting requirements typically once per week and various field locations 1-5 days per week depending upon the season. The frequency of onsite work is determined by business needs and may be adjusted accordingly. Onsite reporting locations may be at various King County worksites including the collaboration space at King Street Center (201 S. Jackson St, Seattle, WA 98104). This work arrangement promotes work-life-balance and reduces carbon footprint.
Remote Work Location Requirement: Employees must reside in Washington State and be within a reasonable distance to King County worksites to meet onsite reporting requirements.
Work Schedule: This full-time position works a 40-hour work week. This position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible.
Union Representation: This position is non-represented.
Duration: This recruitment aims to fill a Term-Limited Temporary (TLT) position with an anticipated duration of one year. If the position is filled by a King County employee who has successfully completed their initial probation, they will be offered the role as a Special Duty Assignment.

Job Duties
What You Will Be Doing:
- Coordinate and manage vegetation maintenance work orders (mowing, and other vegetation control efforts).
- Field work to support other SWS AMU Programs – assessing Regional and Residential vegetation control needs, Facility access issues, mowing Quality Assurance/Quality Control.
- Perform complaint investigations regarding various stormwater facility footprints to help identify vegetation control issues and potential solutions, collaborating with partners and stakeholders, preparing reports, and responding to complainants.
- Assist in determining project prioritization within various asset management scenarios and throughout the asset portfolio including an understanding of the criteria and constraints used to analyze.
- Support Stormwater Services Section (SWS) programs as directed, including engineer complaints, studies, claims, and other programs as assigned.
Qualifications You Bring:
- Two (2) years work experience leading utility or vegetation maintenance crews and in performing practices and methods to assess, understand, and implement maintenance plans.
- Experience overseeing safety for work unit, conducting safety meetings and monitoring for safety hazards and unsafe personnel practices.
- Experience preparing and maintaining records in an asset management system to ensure the work is accomplished in accordance with established timelines and objectives.
- Ability to communicate details in a clear and concise manner to diverse audiences, both technical and non-technical, through both oral and written channels.

- Knowledge and experience using GIS programs with a preference for ArcGIS Pro.
- Proficient in office software: Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Working knowledge of maintaining and operating equipment.
- Application of the concepts and practices of Standard Work and Continuous Improvement.
