Summary
The Operations Section of King County's Solid Waste Division (SWD) is inviting applications for two (2) Term-limited Temporary or Special Duty Assignment (only available to eligible King County Career Service employees) positions to fill which will receive the same medical, dental, vision and retirement benefits as the career service Landfill Gas Operator I (LGO). If you arean independent, responsive problem solver, that is mechanically and computer literate and enjoys working outdoors in all weather conditions trekking acres of land this is your ideal job.

About the Role :
LGO perform control tests to determine if gas system is operating correctly and effectively, adjusting to maintain field balance, gas flow, Title V regulation requirements and landfill gas extraction efficiency. They operate, service and maintain a variety of plant equipment, including blowers, valves, motors, meters, computerized motor controls, and related plant equipment. Perform daily testing of landfill gas pressure, temperature, gas flow and gas quality at wellheads and key manifold locations. Inspect landfill gas plant equipment and facilities to locate and perform needed repairs. Prepare daily control data sheet and compile other reports and input data into computer system. Work on gas line improvement project, test different technologies with consultants and new contractors and pilot technologies with Engineers.

Job Duties
What You'll Be Doing :
Performing repairs on landfill gas related equipment.
Observe gas feeds and log into a computer tablet (i.e. iPad).
Conduct odor checks on landfill and surrounding neighborhood while responding to odor complaints.
Data entry into systems.

Experience safely operating power and hand tools.
Basic algebra, physics, and chemistry that is applicable to landfill gas.
Applied engineering principles.

Supplemental Information
Working Conditions :
Work Schedule : This position works a 40-hour workweek, is non-exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act and is overtime eligible. Although available work schedules are bid by seniority in accordance with the union collective bargaining agreement, this work unit covers the landfill gas duties on a 24 hour a day, 7 day a week basis. Therefore, you must be willing to work overnight or on either a 4 / 10 Wednesday through Saturday, 4 / 10 Sunday through Wednesday shift, with a possibility of a 3 / 13 shift; hours will vary, position will also be required to work on weekends and holidays.
Union Representation : This position is represented by International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE), Local 302.
Duration : This recruitment aims to fill a Term-Limited Temporary (TLT) position for an anticipated 18 months. If the position is filled by a King County employee who successfully completed their initial probation, they will be offered the role as a Special Duty assignment.
Physical Requirements and Environment : Walking long distances and may need to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., work outside in heat / cold, wet / humid, inclement weather while on uneven slopes, surfaces, grades and terrain and other adverse conditions such as odor, high volume noise, dust, and heavy traffic.
