Department: Traffic Solutions

Job Summary:

The Estimator is responsible for allocating available material and labor resources; honors the constraints of scope, schedule, and budget; assists project coordinators and project managers with project development; provides design estimates for feasibility studies and conceptual designs for developing customer and internal budget.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Prepare estimates for maintenance work orders; transfer estimate data to appropriate accounting and scheduling data management systems

• Consult with clients and personnel in other departments to discuss task scope

• Assist with field assessments for asset labeling

• Review work requests, verify asset information, and add/correct job plans

• Aid in the development of Preventive Maintenance plans and assignments

• Collect and input asset data into CMMS program

• Assist in the procurement of materials for task completion

• Complete assignments under the direction of senior planner team

• Inspect in progress work to assure that work is being performed as planned, and in compliance with safety codes and regulations

• Assist project supervisors and field personnel in constructability issues; evaluate proposed field changes and estimate change orders

• Prepares work to be accomplished by gathering information and requirements; setting priorities

• Prepares construction budget by studying plans; updating specifications; identifying and projecting costs for each elevation

• Evaluates offers to purchase by costing changes, additions, and site requirements

• Obtains bids from vendors and subcontractors by specifying materials; identifying qualified subcontractors; negotiating prices

• Maintains cost keys and price masters by updating information

• Resolves cost discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information

• Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.

• Maintains quality service by following organization standards

• Maintains continuity among corporate, division, and local work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs

• Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Proficient in written and oral communication skills according to skill requirements

• Possess strong computer skills, able to read, write, and comprehend written instructional documents

• Ability to function well in a high-paced and, at times, stressful environment

• Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals

• Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs

• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume

• Ability to apply concepts of introductory algebra and geometry

• Proficient Microsoft Office productivity suite

• Strong understanding of mathematics and ability to understand, analyze, compare, and interpret detailed information, and to be able to make sound and accurate decisions

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent

• At least 4 years of cost estimation experience

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged period of standing, bending, reaching, and working with hands

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer

• Occasional periods of prolonged exposure to loud noises

• Ability to lift up to pounds at times

• Ability to stand, walk, and reach with arms and hands as necessary

• Ability to hear and see to position and safety requirement levels

• Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, and chemicals

Special Qualifications/Requirements:

• Must be able to successfully pass as required a federal, state, or local government's background investigation

• Valid state driver's license
