Job Title: HVAC Mechanic / Technician
Department: Facility Operations and Maintenance
Job Summary:
The position requires an intermediate level of computer literacy. Interfacing with members of multiple government agencies through email and responding to work orders/ preventive maintenance schedules through the use of a national maintenance program will be a daily requirement.
Commercial building mechanic needed with experience in the operation and maintenance of boilers, chillers, cooling towers and other HVAC equipment (split systems, mini-splits, water-source heat pumps). Competence in minor plumbing and electrical repairs is a requirement for the position, as well as a minimum of five years of HVAC experience.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Perform maintenance and repair of HVAC systems
-
Installation, service, troubleshooting, and repairs including but not limited to; chillers, air handling units, controls, package units, split systems, exhaust fans, hot/chilled water pumps

Tasks ranging from operation of systems to the examination and evaluation of equipment to determine needed repairs
-
Installsair conditioning systems by positioning compressors, motors, condensers, humidifiers, evaporators, heaters, and other components in accordance with design specifications

Adjust systems for optimal performance
-
Maintainsair conditioning systems by checking performance and determining problems
-
Installs, maintains and repairs the electrical and pneumatic systems associated with refrigeration and air conditioning equipment from the safety switch throughout the equipment
-
Installs, maintains, repairs, operates all types centrifugal and reciprocating air-conditioning systems; also all types of pneumatic/electro-mechanical temperature controls, chillers and boilers

Performs necessary plumbing procedures to ensure operation of systems and equipment
Required Skills/Abilities:

Ability to read blue prints, sketches, and specifications pertaining to air conditioning and refrigeration systems; to follow oral instructions; to use shop mathematics; to lay out work

Requires broad trade knowledge of mechanical principals on standard shop methods of the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic Trade

Ability to interpret and develop technical reports

Able to operate testing equipment for the systems; to use all tools and equipment necessary to this trade; to follow standard methods and procedures for the most part, but on occasion to have the ability and knowledge to perform the unusual and difficult operations

Proficient written and oral communication skills according to skill requirements

Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment

Education and Experience:
-
High school diploma or equivalent
-
At least fiveyears of related experience required

Experience and/or certification in one or more predictive maintenance technologies (vibration analysis, infrared, ultrasound, etc.)
Physical Requirements:

Prolonged period of standing, bending, reaching, and working with hands

Occasional periods of prolonged exposure to load noises

Ability to lift up to 75 pounds at times

Ability to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands as necessary

Ability to hear and see to position and safety requirement levels

Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, and chemicals
Special Qualifications/Requirements:

Must be able to successfully pass as required a federal, state, or local government's background investigation

Obtain and maintain security clearance
-
Must have EPA certification per CFR part 82f (Universal preferred) for servicing and recovery of refrigerants

Must be NATE Certified or be able to obtain within 120 days of hire date
