Job Title: Machinery Maintenance Mechanic
Department: Facility Operations and Maintenance
Job Summary:
Under general supervision, diagnose, maintain repair, and service a wide variety of machines and equipment. Install machines and ensure they are operating properly. Perform preventive maintenance on various devices and fix technical issues.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Diagnose, perform maintenance, and repair on light, medium, and heavy machines and equipment
- Conduct preventive maintenance of mechanical devices
- Detect malfunctions through observation
- Run diagnostic tests to ensure system functionality
- Repair broken or faulty machine parts
- Choose appropriate materials based on mechanical needs
- Align and calibrate machine parts
- Monitor and report on project progress
- Follow safety rules and regulations
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment
- Coordinates with administration and other trades to complete projects/work orders efficiently
- Perform and assist in the maintenance and repair of light, medium, and heavy vehicles and equipment to ensure the availability of equipment
- Responds to emergencies to resolve immediate safety concerns
- Maintains tools and equipment to ensure the availability of equipment in safe operating condition
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to operate and give instruction for the proper operation of light, medium, and heavy machines and equipment
- Ability to diagnose the failure of vehicles and equipment from the trade knowledge and to use diagnostic equipment and decide how properly repair
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance; this includes the ability to operate, calibrate, tune, and synchronize, and perform a complex rapid adjustments on equipment, machinery, and tools such as motor vehicles, motorized equipment, mechanic tools, drill press, welder, forklift, hydraulic press, battery tester, steam cleaner, power washer, and related materials used in performing essential functions
- Ability to explain, demonstrate and clarify to others within well-established policies, procedures, and standards. Ability to follow specific instructions and respond to simple requests from others
- Ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; calculate percentages and decimals
- Ability to recognize and identify individual characteristics of colors and odor to determine the condition of fluids, shapes to distinguish objects clearly, sounds to determine if the equipment is operating correctly, track down malfunctions, and textures to detect wear
- Ability to use a computer to document work and work order status and perform parts requests to ensure accurate communications
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged period of standing, bending, reaching, and working with hands
- Occasional periods of prolonged exposure to loud noises
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds at times
- Ability to stand, walk, and reach with arms and hands as necessary
- Ability to hear and see position and safety requirement levels
- Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, and chemicals
Special Qualifications/Requirements:
- Must be able to successfully pass, as required, a federal, state, or local government background investigation
