Job Summary
King Kullen Grocery Co., Inc. is seeking applicants for an Assistant Store Manager position for our Long Island stores.
The Assistant Store Manager is responsible and accountable for working alongside the store manager to ensure the overall operation and management of the supermarket consistent with the policies and procedures of King Kullen. The Assistant Store Manager supports the store manager with responsibility and accountability for directing, monitoring and maintaining human and physical resources, customer relationships, store finances, merchandising, store cleanliness and security. The Assistant Store Manager reinforces the values of service and quality.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Communicate with supervisors, employees and customers.
2. Identify recurring problems and anticipate potential problems and act on them in a resourceful manner.
3. Works with the store manager to make decisions concerning all aspects of store operation. Monitors and controls key business variables including inventory, cashier balances (overs and shorts), payroll, store shrinkage, pricing and markdowns. Handles bank deposits and ATM machine maintenance as required.
4. Assists the store manager with reviews of store Profit and Loss statements; maintains store composite up to date as well as other important bookkeeping forms and duties including distribution sheets, truck sheets, markdown sheets, department transfers, reports, scheduling, handling money orders and check cashing. Monitors front end work and assists in completing front end work when necessary. Regulates and monitors closely vendor services.
5. Comprehend written policies, procedure, laws, etc. and act on them. Comprehend verbal information and act on it. Learn and grow along with new and evolving management practices and technological innovations.
6. Tour all areas of the store monitoring, inspecting and directing activity; product display, etc. Visit and audit activity competitors.
7. Attend to various detailed aspects and basic mathematical abilities to accomplish critical job tasks (e.g., reviewing billing sheets, payroll records, staff scheduling and hours, store shrinkage, inventory).
8. Adapt to potentially stressful situations brought about by customer complaints, deadlines, personnel situations, and budgetary considerations.
9. Responsibility of opening and/or closing the store as required.
Requirements:
1. The knowledge of supermarket store, or related industry, operations and organization including an awareness of the interrelatedness and interdependence of the various departments.
2. The ability to manage and supervise a diverse group of employees and interpersonal skills to handle customer needs/complaints.
3. Ability to prepare written summaries (e.g., weekly comment reports, performance appraisals, incident reports) and to communicate orally in one-on-one and group settings.
4. The ability and willingness to learn and integrate new policies, procedures and technical processes to improve the way that work is done. An openness to managerial and technological innovations. The ability and willingness to take advantage of programs, seminars, educational courses, etc. designed to further develop job knowledge and skills
5. Ability and willingness to work hours required, including evenings, Saturdays, and alternate Sundays.
6. Ability and willingness to work in various store locations and to attend meetings at Company headquarters.
