What does the job involve?
The toolmaker is responsible for making precision tools (such as jigs, fixtures and dies), special guides and holding devices, which are then used in the manufacturing process to make products.
What will my essential duties and responsibilities include?
- Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathes, milling machine and grinders. Has knowledge of CNC equipment to machine parts and fixturing.
- Set up and operate hand tools and power machine tools.
- Check work in progress and complete parts, using precision measuring devices, for adherence to specified configuration, dimensions, tolerances and finish.
- Manufacture tooling that meets engineering specifications.
- Reads, understands and interprets engineering drawings.
- Follows instructions and takes notes.
- Conceive, develop and build tools, jigs, fixtures and gauges in support of and at the direction of Engineering and Manufacturing requirements.
- Work in a safe manner and perform housekeeping duties to maintain safety and assure proper maintenance of a safe and clean working area.
- Meets job standard times with minimal supervision.
- Follows all safety guidelines established by the Company, including proper use of safety equipment and relevant safety procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
What key skills and experience do I need?
- Ability to fabricate and build various types of tooling.
- Experience working with jigs, fixtures, inspection check fixtures and tooling dies.
- Self-motivated
- Demonstrates a good attitude toward work and arrives on time for start of shift.
- Follows instructions and demonstrates strong attention to detail.
- Communicates well verbally and in writing.
- Mechanically inclined, with good manual dexterity.
- Ability to thrive in a team environment, work independently, and embrace continuous improvement.
What qualifications should I have?
- Possess attentiveness to detail, good hand eye coordination and mathematics skills.
- Properly uses measuring tools and set up tools such as edge finder, indicator, micrometers, etc
- Minimum 10 years' experience working with manual machines.
- Designs tooling using sample parts or prints.
- Good understanding of the manufacturing process.
- Must be able to push, pull and lift up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to stand up to 10 hours per day
