MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHER ASSISTANT Substitue 03/10/2025 - 05/16/2025SUMMARY: Assist teachers in the special education and regular education classroom with daily activities which support student learning. This is determined by the students IEPs and the directives of the teachers.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.Assist the teacher in routine classroom operations.Demonstrate an understanding of assigned students learning profiles.Demonstrate initiative and creativity with students and their program.Follow through with prescribed behavioral management programs.Maintain classroom environment to support student learning, as directed by the teacher.Correct students work; photocopies materials; keeps logs and records as directed by theteacher; writes lessons/notes on the board.Read IEPs of each assigned student.Implement accommodations on IEP (ie. taking student notes, reading to student,administering tests orally, etc.).Act as a laision between regular education teacher and special education teacher toensure continuity of service.Prepare to assist students in specific subject areas according to the requirements of theIEPs and the demands of the content area classes.Ensure content area requirements are noted in students plan book and the teacher isaware of same requirements.Available and ready to assist the special education and regular education teachers asneeded to support student learning.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises students in the absence of the teacher for brief discrete periods of time.QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Previous experience with special education students.LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to staff, parents, students, and administrators.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to develop and interpret graphs, tables, and charts.REASONING ABILITY: Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to work with assigned special education student population.

Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to maintain composure under stressful conditions. Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

The employee needs to be able to tell where a sound is coming from and hear in a noisy environment. Occasionally will assist in physical management of students.Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material and the ability to adjust focus.
