Job Title : Grade 5 Maternity Leave Language Arts Teacher
Division : Lower School
Reports to : Head of Lower School
Time Frame : August 20 - November 28, 2025
Summary : King School seeks a Grade 5 Maternity Leave Teacher who will report to the Head of Lower School. This teacher will assume duties and responsibilities, consistent with expectations for Lower School classroom teachers from September to November.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to :
- Serve as a homeroom teacher and collaborate closely with the grade 5 faculty to ensure a cohesive curriculum and share effective teaching strategies within the departmentalized structure.
- Provide academic and emotional support to students.
- Utilize Responsive Classroom methods, including daily Morning Meetings and classroom management strategies to create a positive classroom environmentthat encourages student participation, collaboration, inclusivity, and respect.
- Create opportunities for students to develop self-regulation skills in a learning environment that emphasizes social-emotional learning, positive interdependence and active listening.
- Plan, implement engaging language arts lessons that promote reading comprehension, writing skills, vocabulary development, and critical thinking skills.
- Assess student progress through a variety of formative and summative assessments, providing timely feedback to students and families.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students; teach language arts in small and large group lessons, as well as individual instruction.
- Use the project-based learning approach to develop a culturally responsive integrated curriculum that builds cognitive and social / emotional skills.
- Use appropriate technology to enhance instruction and communication,including the MyKing portal for report writing and sharing information with parents weekly.
- Organize and conduct parent-teacher conferences, providing insights into student performance and writing reports on student progress using the MyKing system.
- Model fairness and proper behavior.
- Demonstrate a commitment to professional growth and development.
- As a member of a teaching team, meet regularly, share resources, and collaborate effectively with other faculty members
- Attend Lower School and all-school faculty meetings, as well as workshops on professional growth and development days held after 3 : 00 p.m.
- Participate in Back to School Night by presenting classroom expectations, curriculum highlights, and ways parents can engage in their child’s learning
- Participate in King’s orientation and mentor programs.
- Perform duties as assigned by the Head of Lower School, including recess, lunch, and dismissal.
