Job Title : Lower School Early Childhood Teacher (Kindergarten)

Reports to : Head of Lower School
Summary : King School seeks a full-time Lower School Early Childhood Educator to join our lower school team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of early childhood development, a commitment to experiential learning, and the ability to create an engaging classroom environment that encourages curiosity and exploration. This teacher will be a member of the Early Childhood team and will work in partnership with other educators to deliver a comprehensive, creative, and developmentally appropriate program to five-year-olds in our kindergarten program. This position reports to the Head of Lower School.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to :
- Teach all academic areas of a kindergarten class, including language arts, social studies, and mathematics, in small and large group lessons, as well as individual instruction.
- Effectively teach Foundations, Readers and Writers Workshop Model, as well as Investigations mathematics program.
- Develop and implement an emergent curriculum that aligns with inquiry and project-based learning methodologies that builds cognitive and social / emotional skills.
- Utilize Responsive Classroom methods, including daily Morning Meetings and classroom management strategies.
- Create opportunities for students to develop self-regulation skills in a learning environment that emphasizes social-emotional learning.
- Create a warm, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment that supports individual learning styles and needs.
- Foster a love of learning through hands-on activities, exploration, and guided inquiry.
- Use assessments to monitor student progress and adapt teaching strategies to differentiate instruction accordingly.
- Engage with parents and caregivers to support student learning and development.
- Collaborate with colleagues to enhance the educational programs and share best practices.
- Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with early childhood education trends and methodologies.
- Document student learning in visually-interesting and informative ways. As a member of a teaching team, meet regularly, share resources, and collaborate effectively.
- Use appropriate technology to enhance instruction and communication, including the MyKing portal for report writing and sharing information with parents weekly.
- Hold parent conferences; attend Lower School and all-school faculty meetings, as well as workshops on professional growth and development days held after 3 : 00 p.m.
- Attend Parents’ Night in September / October, Open House etc.
- Work in collaboration with the Admission Office in screening applicants.
- Work with the Admission Office and Marketing / Communications department to highlight the program
- Perform duties as assigned by the Head of Lower School, including recess, lunch, and dismissal.
