Key Responsibilities
Curriculum Development:
- Develop and implement an engaging and inclusive Upper School theater curriculum that aligns with the school's mission and educational philosophy.
- Design course offerings that encompass acting, directing, theater history, playwriting.
- Incorporate contemporary practices and technologies to create a forward-thinking theater program.
- Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback to encourage artistic growth.
- Direct and produce a variety of theatrical productions, including plays, musicals, and student-driven performances.
- Manage all aspects of production, including casting, scheduling rehearsals, coordinating set and costume design, and overseeing technical elements.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and external professionals to ensure high-quality productions.
- Foster an inclusive environment that celebrates diversity in storytelling and casting.
- Inspire and mentor students in their creative pursuits and leadership roles within the theater program.
- Cultivate strong relationships with students, parents, and the broader school community.
- Serve as an advocate for the arts within the school and participate in interdisciplinary initiatives.
- Manage budgets and resources for the theater department effectively.
- Participate in school-wide events, meetings, and professional development opportunities.
- Support students' involvement in regional and national theater festivals and competitions.
- Maintain a safe and positive learning environment in the classroom and rehearsal spaces.
- Bachelor's degree in Theater, Theater Education (Master’s preferred).
- 5 years of experience in theater education and show direction on the secondary, community theatre, or regional theatre level.
- Expertise in various aspects of theater production, including acting, directing.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Passion for working with young artists and fostering a love of theater.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of students, colleagues, and parents.
