The Pricing Analyst will assist the Pricing team in supporting the success of the various practice groups within the firm. The Pricing Analyst will perform financial analysis and modeling to help the firm develop effective pricing arrangements, budgets, and assess the financial impact of pricing proposals. This role will also assist in developing processes and systems for (i) organizing and tracking alternative fee arrangements and special billing arrangements, (ii) delivering reports and tools to attorneys to ensure effective project management, and (iii) developing responses to pricing sections of request for proposals (“RFPs”). The role also supports the data needs associated with annual client rate increase negotiations. The Pricing Analyst will report directly to the Director of Strategic Pricing.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop budgets; work directly with attorneys to develop budgets and pricing proposals, utilizing prior budget samples, other relevant matter experience, and data mining matters
Enroll matters in tracking/reporting to support legal project management efforts
Data mine historical matters to support development of new pricing proposals
Develop scenarios and models to assess financial impact and profitability of pricing proposals and assist in the development of creative, workable pricing solutions in response to client demands
Perform research and develop analysis to support annual review of client billing rates
Prepare or assist with recurring and special management reports/graphs
Prepare queries across multiple tables/databases to generate data
Manipulate data in Excel spreadsheets, Power BI, or other databases in order to summarize the financial reports requested
Perform extractions from the financial system and ensure that the data is maintained accurately
From time to time, the Pricing Analyst may be asked for perform different or additional duties to the above
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Business with concentration in Finance or Accounting.
Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in financial analysis, reporting, or accounting/finance functions. Strong preference for law firm or corporate legal operations experience.
The ideal candidate will have strong financial analysis skills, the ability to synthesize large volumes of complex data, strong interpersonal skills, and a desire to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
The Pricing Analyst will use technology tools (primarily Aderant, SSRS, Excel, and PowerBI) to perform the above activities. The role will leverage these systems to data mine historical matters that will help inform our pricing and budget proposals for new opportunities.
The position is heavily involved in analysis, and communication of financial metrics to Partners and Senior Management. The role requires identifying solutions and opportunities to promote profitable growth in the firm.
Must have strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks and tight deadlines effectively; understanding scope, deliverables, and timelines.
Proven ability to identify and analyze issues and problems and work towards solutions.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) and sound professional judgement. Must have ability to communicate progress against deadlines and proactively manage expectations when complexities are encountered. Ability to deal with all levels of legal, management, and support staff in a highly effective and professional manner is required.
Must be able to communicate results, and analysis clearly to various audiences; knowing when to summarize or detail information.
Must be able to translate vague directions into specific actions through clarifying questions and discussion.
Attention to detail and accuracy are essential.
Must have a high proficiency with Excel, notably advanced formulas, pivot tables, and macros. Experience with business intelligence, data mining, and report development using Power BI, VBA, SQL, and SQL Server a plus. Strong comfort level with technology and various MS Office applications.
Must have ability to analyze relationships of financial data in order to spot variances from normal. Ability to follow through in investigation and explanation of any variances.
