Job Title:
Youth Counselor I (Mentor)
About the Role:
The Youth Counselor I (Mentor) will provide structured mentoring and individualized academic and social/behavioral support to a defined caseload of youth within a multi-tiered system of support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provides coaching, problem-solving support, and individualized skill-building interventions to youth.
- Systematically monitors school attendance and behavior; documents youth engagement in the school and community.
- Facilitates youth access to active participation in school/community-related activities and events.
- Communicates regularly with program supervisor, school personnel, and community partnerships.
- Conducts home/work/school visits with youth and families to establish relationships built on open communication and trust.
- Prepares written reports and documentation as required and needed.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all juvenile information.
- Assists with monitoring other Community Connection Program services as required.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Requirements:
- A high school diploma and a minimum of 2 years of professional experience working with adolescents.
- A valid State of Virginia driver's license
- A driving record that meets established King William County Driving Standards
- Acceptably clear background checks through Child Protective Services, FBI, and State NCIC
- A clean driving record
- Able to drive for long periods
- Able to work beyond normal work schedule - including nights, weekends, and holidays
