Location : Kingdom Heights Preparatory School

Reports To : Head of School

Position Type : Full-Time

FLSA Status : Exempt

Salary : Competitive, commensurate with experience

Position Summary :

The  Athletic Director  is responsible for leading, organizing, and managing all athletic programs for Kingdom Heights Preparatory School, ensuring that they align with the school’s mission and values. The AD will oversee the development of a comprehensive K-12 athletic program that emphasizes quality physical education programming, health, student-athlete well-being, sportsmanship, academic success, and the development of leadership and teamwork skills. This position includes overseeing all physical education, coaches, organizing interscholastic and intramural events, ensuring compliance with league rules and regulations, and fostering a culture of Christian sportsmanship, respect, and excellence in athletics. The AD will work closely with faculty, staff, parents, students, and community to create a positive and enriching athletic environments for all participants.

Key Responsibilities

Athletic Program Leadership and Development

  • Provide visionary leadership for a comprehensive K-12 athletic program that serves students at all grade levels, from beginner to competitive athlete.
  • Develop and implement a strategic vision for athletics that aligns with the school’s overall mission and educational philosophy.
  • Ensure that the athletic program promotes physical fitness, character development, teamwork, and Christian sportsmanship, supporting the broader educational experience of students.
  • Oversee all athletic activities, including practices, games, tournaments, and special events, ensuring a positive experience for all student-athletes.
  • Collaborate with school leadership to enhance the integration of athletics with the academic and extracurricular programs.

Budget and Resource Management

  • Develop, manage, and monitor the annual budget for the athletic department, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively to support teams, equipment, facilities, and events.
  • Oversee the purchasing and maintenance of athletic equipment, uniforms, and supplies, ensuring they meet safety standards.
  • Seek and manage opportunities for external funding, including fundraising, donations, and sponsorships, to support the athletic program.
  • Coaching and Staff Management

  • Recruit, hire, and manage coaching staff for all K-12 athletic teams, ensuring they are qualified, aligned with the school’s values, and committed to student-athlete development.
  • Provide mentorship and professional development for coaches, encouraging ongoing learning about best practices in coaching, student-athlete development, and sportsmanship.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations of coaching staff to ensure they meet the athletic program's standards.
  • Develop and implement training and development programs for coaches to ensure they understand the school’s philosophy of athletics and are prepared to handle the physical and emotional needs of student-athletes.
  • Student-Athlete Development

  • Ensure that all student-athletes are supported academically, emotionally, and physically, maintaining a healthy balance between athletics and academic responsibilities.
  • Promote the importance of academic achievement among student-athletes, establishing guidelines for academic eligibility, and ensuring access to academic support when needed.
  • Foster a culture of respect, leadership, and sportsmanship both on and off the field.
  • Provide opportunities for student-athletes to develop life skills such as teamwork, discipline, time management, and communication.
  • Event Coordination and Scheduling

  • Organize and schedule all athletic events, including practices, games, tournaments, and competitions, ensuring proper staffing and student-athlete preparation.
  • Coordinate transportation, facilities, and other logistics related to home and away athletic events.
  • Oversee the management of athletic facilities, ensuring they are well-maintained and meet safety standards for practices and events.
  • Communication and Public Relations

  • Serve as the primary spokesperson for the school’s athletic program to students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni, and the broader community.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with parents, encouraging their support and involvement in the athletic program.
  • Regularly communicate with parents and stakeholders about athletic schedules, results, and important updates through newsletters, social media, or other communication channels.
  • Coordinate the promotion and marketing of athletic events, ensuring visibility and engagement within the school community.
  • Compliance and Safety

  • Ensure all athletic programs comply with applicable rules and regulations for K-12 athletics, including league standards and safety protocols.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of safety policies for all athletic programs, including concussion protocols, emergency response plans, and injury prevention.
  • Maintain up-to-date certifications and training for coaches and staff in areas such as first aid, CPR, concussion management, and child protection.
  • Community Engagement and Partnerships

  • Build relationships with other local schools, athletic leagues, and community organizations to enhance the school’s visibility and create opportunities for athletic collaboration.
  • Engage with alumni to foster school spirit, increase support for the athletic program, and encourage involvement in school events and fundraising efforts.
  • Promote the values of teamwork, school spirit, and sportsmanship at all school athletic events, ensuring a positive and inclusive atmosphere.
  • Qualifications

    Education :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Sports Management, Kinesiology, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Experience

  • At least 5 years of experience in athletic administration, coaching, or sports management, with a strong understanding of K-12 physical education and secondary athletics.
  • Proven experience in budgeting, staffing, and managing athletic facilities and equipment.
  • Demonstrated success in recruiting, developing, and mentoring coaching staff.
  • Experience working with students, parents, faculty, and staff to support a collaborative athletic program.
  • Skills and Competencies

  • Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple teams, events, and priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage students, parents, coaches, community, and school leadership.
  • Ability to manage and resolve conflicts in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Knowledge of the principles of student-athlete development, including balancing athletics with academics and social-emotional growth.
  • Familiarity with safety standards and compliance in K-12 sports, including concussion protocols and child protection practices.
  • Ability to foster a positive, inclusive, and motivating environment for both coaches and student-athletes.
