Key Responsibilities
Grad Nurse: The primary purpose of the Graduate Nurse position is to allow the graduate to perform skilled clinical duties, as specified, under the direction of a licensed professional nurse. Nurse Resident: Works under the direction of the physician and the Arizona State Nurse Practice Act to provide nursing care to patients in compliance with nursing standards and regulations. Utilizes the nursing process to make continuing assessments of the patient’s total health needs; implements nursing interventions based on assessment data; develops and implements the nursing plan of care, and evaluates the patient’s response. Strives to provide excellent patient care with compassion, tact, cheerfulness, accuracy, patience, flexibility in scheduling, calmness in emergency, and ability to work well with team members, receiving and applying feedback from peers and superiors. Assists with orientation of new staff to the unit as requested.
Quality of Care and Nursing Process
a. The nurse provides evidence-based care so as to prevent the development of a Healthcare Acquired Condition and hospital readmissions.
b. The nurse practices standard precautions during patient contact and while handling contaminated materials.
c. The nurse complies with CDC hand hygiene guidelines and works to reduce hospital acquired infections and other conditions.
Assessment: The nurse collects patient health data.
a. Nursing assessments are completed according to hospital and unit specific policies, procedures, and standards of nursing care.
b. Pertinent data are collected from the patient, significant others, and health care providers.
c. A comprehensive patient history and physical is completed in a timely manner and includes: biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care abilities, educational, age specific, cultural, and discharge planning needs.
Diagnosis / Care Needs: The nurse analyzes the assessment data to identify care needs.
a. Nursing diagnoses / care needs are derived from the assessment data.
b. Involving the patient and significant other as appropriate, the nurse formulates a plan to provide appropriate care based on identified patient needs
Implementation: The patient’s nursing care is based on identified nursing diagnoses / care needs and patient care standards, and is consistent with the therapies of other disciplines.

Evaluation: The nurse evaluates the patient’s progress towards attainment of desired outcomes.
a. Evaluation of the patient’s response to nursing care is evident in the ongoing assessment data.
b. Nursing diagnoses / care needs are revised based on reassessment data.
Documentation: Documents patient care management in clear, concise manner.
a. Completes nursing admission and assessment form. All blanks completely filled in or “N/A”.
b. Initiates the Nursing Care Plan with identified patient problems considering age specific variations, nursing diagnosis, expected outcomes and nursing interventions.
c. Records patient’s response to hospitalization, treatments, and nursing intervention on the patient care record.
d. Documents medications, treatments, and nursing intervention on appropriate chart forms. NOTE: Grad Nurse is not allowed to independently:
administer medication
initiate any type of IV therapy
administer blood products
accept verbal or telephone orders
obtain and/or witness consent
initiate or apply restraints.
e. Provides thorough discharge instructions and sends patient home with a discharge folder as appropriate.
Education
a. Collaborates with preceptor in setting weekly goals and takes action to achieve the identified goals
b. Completes the weekly evaluation forms and submits to Department Director
c. Attends educational offerings and monthly departmental meetings when possible
Patient Satisfaction
a. Regularly updates patient “communication” boards, is skilled at providing bedside shift report, performs hourly rounds on patients, and applies AIDET as well as other evidence-based behaviors.
b. Unit goal for Patient Satisfaction met.
Qualifications
Certification: Current BLS (CPR) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association
Education: Must have an Associate Degree in Nursing or graduate of a Nursing Diploma program. Graduation must have occurred no more than 6 months prior to start of the Resident program.
Exception: for individuals without acute care experience, graduation must have occurred no more than 12 months prior to the start of the Resident program
OR completion of a refresher program no more than 6 months prior to the start of the Resident program
Preferences Licensure: Current, valid Arizona RN license or compact state RN license
Special Position
1. Licensure: Current, valid Arizona RN license or compact state RN license prior to the end of the Resident Program
2. Provide effective practices throughout the Nurse Residency program by:
Being accountable for the management and provision of patient care in his or her assigned area.
Assessing patients’ needs for nursing care and other services.
Collaborating with physicians, other services, patients and patients’ families to plan patient care and evaluate outcomes.
Improving practice by integrating results and theories of research studies and actively participate in data collection for current studies.
3. New graduate nurses will create and enhance professional networks and relationships with peers during the residency, while honing and developing clinical leadership skills while at Kingman Regional Medical Center.
4. Under the direction of an Education Director, this position develops and consolidates a nurse’s skill, knowledge, and expertise in a multidisciplinary environment to be an effective member of a multidisciplinary health care team through a structured program in the workplace.
Work Requirements
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK REQUIREMENTS:
1. Able to handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
2. Demonstrates good oral and written communication skills.
3. Able to manage technical business equipment i.e. phone, fax, computer etc.
4. Able to lift 50-70 lbs, and able to assist with the movement of an adult patient weighing up to 300 lbs. 5. Able to care for patients with infectious diseases.
6. Able to sit for 3-5 hours per day; Able to stand for 3-5 hours per day; Able to walk for 3-5 hours day.
