What are the responsibilities and job description for the Transportation Professional - School Bus Driver position at Kings Canyon Unified School District?
About the Role: We are seeking a reliable and experienced transportation professional to join our team as a school bus driver. As a vital member of our transportation department, you will be responsible for safely transporting students to and from school while maintaining a clean and well-maintained vehicle.
Responsibilities:
- Drive a school bus daily over designated routes, adhering to an established time schedule, picking up and discharging students, including those with special needs;
- Evaluate road conditions and adjust driving accordingly to ensure safe passage;
- Escort students across streets and stop traffic as necessary;
- Maintain order among students on the bus, following district policies regarding discipline and communication with parents;
- Clean, sweep, and wash the bus regularly, ensuring it is in good working condition;
- Perform minor repairs on buses, such as changing oil and checking tire pressure;
- Assist mechanics and maintenance workers with general maintenance and custodial work around school buildings and grounds;
- Notify supervisors of any bus maintenance issues or concerns;
- Participate in training programs to enhance skills and knowledge in working with students with special needs.
Requirements:
- A valid California Class B CDL license with a passenger endorsement;
- A valid California Special Driver's Certificate for School Bus;
- A valid DL-51 Medical Certificate;
- At least one year of experience operating a motor vehicle;
- A high school diploma or equivalent;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
- The ability to pass a Department of Transportation physical exam and background check;
- A commitment to safety and customer service.
