JOB SUMMARY

Draws blood from patients in hospital, or similar facility, for analysis or other medical purposes

Overall performance rating of below indicated essential job duties:
Assembles equipment, such as tourniquet, needles, disposable containers for needles, blood collection devices, gauze, cotton and alcohol, on work tray in accordance to requirements for specified tests of procedures
Verifies or records identity of patient and converses with patient to allay fear of procedure
Correctly labels blood collected from patient listing patients name, medical record number, physician, date and time collected, and initials
Correctly verifies in the computer the blood was collected
Deliver the specimen collected to the correct department in the laboratory
Regularly checks the collected and uncollected lists
Attends mandatory training programs

Minimum requirement:

High school diploma or Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two year college or technical school; or completion of a certified phlebotomy course or one year related experience and/or training
National Phlebotomist certification through accredited program

Regularly works near moving mechanical parts
Constantly exposed to blood and/or body fluids and infection.
Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals
Occasionally exposed to risk of radiation
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
