Responsibilities
- Support the Student Experience/Services Team with activities, college visits, student housing, conflict resolution, etc.
- Accurately communicate and support both KPU and the host university's academic, administrative, and program policies.
- Help students adjust to academic college culture in the US – plagiarism, study and note-taking skills, classroom etiquette and other skills needed to succeed in college.
- Possess a strong comfort level with undergraduate and graduate level materials and course structure and know how to teach academic skills required in college - research papers, analytical reading, presentations, etc.
- Provide holistic guidance on academics, time management, healthy habits (ex. sleep, scroll time, etc.), emotional well-being, and work.
- Lead regular workshops and advising sessions to help students build competitive profiles as it pertains to extracurricular activities, personal and/or academic projects, employment, community service, etc.
- Instruct students bound for undergraduate and graduate programs in the US. Instruction will include linguistic, academic, and university preparation elements.
- Counsel students on admission criteria and other factors in the higher education decision process.
- Remain current on national university and college transfer requirements and regulations
- Develop and maintain a cooperative relationship with the host university staff
- Develop and maintain a cooperative relationship with admissions staff at the colleges and universities the KPU students apply to.
- Maintain a library of college preparation and admissions resources for students.
- Maintain the database for students’ academic progress and prepare regular external reports.
- Proactively identify and implement methods for publicizing and promoting activities of KPU through various social media outlets.
- Represent KPU at regional guidance counselor fairs and other similar conventions
- Support the Academic Team when opportunities to substitute an EFL class and/or assist with administrative issues may arise during peak hours.The Student Success Advisor (Progression and Academic Support) is responsible for planning, organizing, and delivering a comprehensive transfer advising program based on the development and individual needs of international students.
- Admissions, college, or academic advising or related experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a closely related field or equivalent experience, Master’s Degree preferred
- Cultural sensitivity
- Experience teaching ESL to/working with students from a variety of cultural backgrounds preferred
- Superb English writing skills with the ability to revise and edit various types of documents
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Tact, patience, and diplomacy, particularly with non-native English speakers
- Good problem-solving, creative thinking, and organizational skills
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
- Must work in person
