Project Manager Job Description
Position Overview
Kingsbury Companies, LLC is seeking an experienced and results-driven Project Manager to oversee the successful planning, execution, and delivery of heavy civil construction projects. The Project Manager will lead and mentor project delivery staff and coordinate with the VP of Operations, General Super, Safety Manager, and preconstruction and estimating teams to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This role serves as the leader of project delivery, responsible for managing field staff, project engineers, and superintendents while fostering collaboration and accountability.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in heavy civil construction, exceptional leadership skills, and expertise in cost control, scheduling, and stakeholder management.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning and Execution
- Develop comprehensive project plans, including budgets, schedules, risk assessments, and resource allocation.
- Collaborate with estimating and preconstruction teams to ensure smooth project handoffs, addressing scope, budget, and schedule expectations.
- Monitor project progress, ensuring alignment with client expectations and contract requirements.
- Utilize Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling tools (e.g., Primavera, Microsoft Project) to manage timelines effectively.
Leadership and Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop project delivery staff, including field personnel, project engineers, and superintendents.
- Conduct performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and identify opportunities for advancement or improvement.
- Make recommendations regarding promotions, advancements, discipline, and terminations, in alignment with company policies.
- Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture focused on achieving project goals.
Cost Management
- Maintain or exceed project profitability by tracking budgets, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and addressing financial variances.
- Review and approve change orders, ensuring cost impacts are documented and communicated to stakeholders.
- Prepare and present monthly financial reports, including profit projections, budget updates, and variance analyses.
Quality Assurance
- Enforce strict quality control measures to ensure all work complies with project plans and specifications.
- Conduct regular site visits and inspections to identify and address potential issues proactively.
- Record and analyze lessons learned from completed projects to inform future strategies and improve outcomes.
Safety and Compliance
- Ensure all projects adhere to OSHA and company safety protocols, maintaining a safe and compliant work environment.
- Support hazard analyses, safety audits, and job-specific safety plans, ensuring timely resolution of any risks.
- Promote a culture of safety by leading by example and actively participating in safety meetings and training.
Stakeholder Communication
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients, addressing concerns, providing updates, and ensuring satisfaction.
- Maintain open communication with subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders to align on project goals and address challenges.
- Deliver regular project status reports, including updates on schedules, budgets, risks, and opportunities.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate project records, including contracts, RFIs, submittals, change orders, and meeting minutes.
- Oversee the submission of required reports, such as daily field logs and safety audits, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Record historical data and lessons learned from projects to enhance organizational knowledge and performance.
Sustainability and Innovation
- Incorporate sustainable construction practices, such as waste reduction, recycling, and energy-efficient methodologies.
- Identify and implement innovative construction technologies to improve project efficiency and outcomes.
Project Closeout
- Oversee project closeout activities, ensuring final inspections, punch lists, and client handovers are completed seamlessly.
- Ensure all closeout documentation, including as-built drawings and warranties, is delivered on time.
- Conduct post-project reviews to evaluate performance, document lessons learned, and identify opportunities for improvement.
Project Engineer Requirements:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, civil engineering, a related field or equivalent work experience is required.
- Advanced certifications such as PMP (Project Management Professional), CCM (Certified Construction Manager), or similar are preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in project leadership within the heavy civil construction industry, including water/wastewater, infrastructure, renewable energy, or other large-scale civil projects.
- Proven track record of managing multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring completion on time, within budget, and to specifications.
- Extensive experience leading and mentoring field staff, project engineers, and superintendents.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in construction management software (e.g., Procore or similar) and scheduling tools (e.g., Primavera, Microsoft Project).
- Strong understanding of CPM (Critical Path Method) scheduling and its application in project planning and execution.
- Advanced cost control and financial management knowledge, including forecasting, budget tracking, and profit analysis.
- Comprehensive understanding of heavy equipment operations, material procurement, and subcontractor coordination.
Leadership and Communication:
- Exceptional leadership skills with experience in managing, coaching, mentoring, and developing teams.
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills, with the ability to resolve conflicts and lead teams through challenges effectively.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage with clients, stakeholders, and team members at all levels.
Safety and Compliance:
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA standards and safety practices, with experience developing and enforcing jobsite safety plans.
- Proven ability to conduct hazard analyses and implement proactive safety measures to mitigate risks.
- Experience in fostering a culture of safety and accountability on project sites.

- Expertise in quality control practices, ensuring all work aligns with project specifications and client expectations.
- Ability to identify and resolve quality issues proactively, maintaining high standards of workmanship.
