Summary Description
The Continuous Improvement-Operational Excellence (CI/OpEx) Engineer will develop short and long-term strategies for KINA’s Winchester site incorporating OpEx, Lean, Six Sigma principles and other practices enabling costs to be reduced, both in terms of manufacturing efficiencies and sales. Work with the Plant Manager and managers across the site to develop and roll out a range of activities, performance management systems, and standardizing practices that will improve plant capacity and reduce overall manufacturing costs.
Essential Duties
Essential duties are interpreted as being descriptive and not restrictive in nature. Other duties may be assigned.
- Work to continue the development of a Continuous Improvement culture within KINA.
- Assist the plant that has identified shortcoming or scope for improvement in any part of their process. Deliverable should include agreement on a clear statement of problem or improvement opportunity, agreement on what success looks like and how to measure it, structured and data-based problem-solving process with report(s) detailing the outcome.
- Identify and physically run CI and cost saving projects.
- Work with all departments and the division to identify opportunities for reducing and avoiding costs, through analyzing the value streams and then working with local management to develop loss reduction plans.
- Identify best and good practice in any department and consider the case for implementation in some or all of the other departments in the plant.
- Provide C.I. training on core tools and techniques ensuring division standards are adhered to and give feedback from audits, process confirmations and spot checks.
- Help coordinate the collection of all data required for monthly manufacturing reporting and analysis.
- Monitor progress to ensure results are sustained.
- Ensure all plant reporting is standard in terms of timeliness, content, and presentation.
- Develop divisional automated, electronic systems, to help further develop the plant’s visibility into problems and to aid the root cause investigation process.
- Analyse, provide and validate data critical to justification of capital and OpEx projects and be able to create a capital expenditure project.
- Facilitate the plant’s Monthly Steering Committee meeting.
- Overall KPI’s or Measures: site annual cost down plans, manufacturing/various savings rolled into margin, site OpEx annual external audit score, Internal IMS audit process and monthly reports showing performance against targets.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
Education and/or Experience: bachelor’s degree in business, Finance or Engineering from an accredited school or equivalent skills and experience.
Must have:
- 3 years of CI experience within a manufacturing environment and hands on CI project experience
- Minimum Six Sigma Green Belt.
- Project management experience.
- Experience in deployment of CI methodologies.
- Ability to manage priorities and work autonomously.
- Ability to develop, model and coach lean applications.
- Ability to travel up to 15% of the time and work remotely.
Must be able to:

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Must be able to communicate orally and written in English.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures by using advanced math skills, applicable to and consistent with an business degree.
Reasoning Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
