Job Summary:
The Teacher (Montessori Primary Guide) fosters a nurturing and prepared environment where children develop independence, a love for learning, and foundational academic and life skills. The guide observes, supports, and facilitates learning through Montessori materials and methods while respecting each child’s unique developmental journey.
Key Responsibilities:
Classroom Environment:
- Prepare and maintain an orderly, engaging, and developmentally appropriate Montessori classroom.
- Ensure all materials are clean, complete, and aligned with Montessori principles.
- Create a peaceful, respectful, and inclusive atmosphere.
- Encourage self-help and good hygiene through behavior modeling.
Instruction & Child Development:
- Present Montessori lessons to children individually or in small groups.
- Observe students and tailor lessons based on their developmental needs and interests.
- Encourage independence, curiosity, and intrinsic motivation in learning.
- Guide children in practical life, sensorial, language, math, cultural, and social-emotional development.
Classroom Management & Social Development:
- Support children in developing conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
- Model grace and courtesy, fostering respect among peers.
- Encourage a collaborative and cooperative community within the classroom.
Assessment & Communication:
- Maintain detailed records of student progress and observations.
- Provide feedback to parents through conferences, reports, and informal communication.
- Collaborate with school leadership and other staff to ensure student success.
Professional Development & School Community:
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development opportunities.
- Engage in continuous self-reflection and growth in Montessori philosophy.
- Contribute to the wider school community through events, activities, and team collaboration.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field (required).
- Montessori certification for Primary (preferred).
- Experience working in early childhood education (required) or in a Montessori setting (preferred).
- Strong classroom management and observational skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
- Passion for child-centered education and a deep understanding of Montessori philosophy.
- Demonstrate basic computer skills.
- A strong understanding of child development.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, professionalism and interpersonal skills.
- Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification.
- Must clear full background check and health screening.
Work Environment:
- Active, hands-on learning environment requiring movement, interaction, and patience.
- May involve sitting on the floor, bending, and lifting Montessori materials.
- Close interaction with children, families, and school staff.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to stand for extended periods of time. Ability to lift/carry up to 35 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able frequently to twist, turn, kneel, bend and stoop multiple times per day.
Employment Availability:
This is a full-time position and must be available to work full-time, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. May have to work during family or special events.
