Pre-Assessment Nurse, LVN
POSITION
Pre -Assessment nurse under the direct supervision of the Clinical Nurse Manager in conjunction with the Administrative Director, performs a verbal assessment with the patient prior to admission via a phone interview,collects the patient's medical history from previous medical records. The nurse works closely with the anesthesia department in coordinating the patients needs. Provides safe, knowledgeable, compassionate, educative, individualized, and goal-directed nursing care to patients and their families in the Surgery Center.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Current Texas LVN Licensure
- Graduate from an accredited LVN Nursing program
- Minimum of 2 years of perioperative experience preferred and/or in an Ambulatory Surgery Center setting.
- Current Basic Life Support Certification/Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) issued by the American Heart Association.
- Ability to verbalize understanding of the nursing process
- Possess excellent communication skills and the ability to maintain interactive/interpersonal relationships
- Interview/communication skills, nursing assessment skills, critical think/problem solving skills and teaching/counseling skills.
- Possess strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft, and/or Window applications

RESPONSIBILITES
- Practice appropriate telephone and patient triage skills, being aware of the need to balance quality care with efficient use of time and resources.
- Perform verbal assessment with patient prior to admission-in person or via telephone, communicating information to appropriate team members.
- Ensure pre-operative care requirements of patients are accomplished through use of the nursing process including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Communicate pertinent patient information to the anesthesia team prior to the patient's scheduled procedure.
- Communicate arrival time and instructions to patients
- Answer inquiries in a timely and helpful manner.
- Knowledgeable in endoscopy procedures, medications, anesthesia techniques, and ambulator surgery to answer patient questions and give appropriate perioperative instructions
- Demonstrate ability to prioritize tasks
- Demonstrate organization skills to facilitate a smooth flow of the workload.
- Maintain and apply the scientific knowledge relevant to the care requirements of the patient with consideration of age specific and developmental needs.
