The Analytics & Actuarial team at Kinsale is responsible for all the analytical work done at the company including actuarial pricing, reserving, capital modeling, catastrophe modeling, data science, KPIs, and reinsurance. Ultimately, we are interested in assembling the best team possible, which means you do not need experience in all the areas above to be considered. Your prior experience and areas of interest will determine your specific responsibilities.
Responsibilities
Your prior experience and areas of interest will play a large role in determining your responsibilities. Possible technical responsibilities include :
- Collaborate with actuaries on core analyses including, pricing, reserving, and reinsurance
- Fine-tuning rating variables using both internal and external data
- Developing rating plans for new insurance products
- Utilizing third-party data to enhance existing pricing algorithms
- Designing experiments such as A / B tests or other experimental designs to enhance marketing strategy
- Identifying other functional areas where predictive modeling and / or machine learning can improve operational efficiency and profitability
- Communicating results to others, both inside and outside of the department
- Meeting with other departments and designing solutions to meet their needs
- Managing multiple projects at once and meeting various deadlines as required
- Taking ownership of your work - performing reasonability checks and accuracy checks prior to sharing results
- Enhancing existing analyses and projects including further automation, creating new exhibits, utilizing new methods, etc.
- Performing technical reviews and conceptual reviews for others
- Being able to complete challenging tasks independently
- Training and mentoring newer team members as needed - providing technical help as well as educating them on general statistical concepts
