Kinston Community Health Center (KCHC) is seeking a compassionate and skilled Clinical Interpreter to support our mission of delivering high-quality, accessible care to all. This vital role ensures Spanish-speaking patients receive clear, accurate, and culturally appropriate medical communication, helping improve health outcomes and patient satisfaction.
Position Summary:
The Clinical Interpreter provides Spanish interpretation and translation of critical medical information to support physicians and healthcare providers in their care of patients with limited English proficiency. The role includes both in-person and telephonic interpretation and occasional written translation of health center documents.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide accurate and culturally appropriate Spanish interpretation for patients, families, and healthcare providers during medical appointments
Assist with scheduling and rescheduling appointments for Spanish-speaking patients
Translate written documents, brochures, website content, and other materials from English to Spanish
Document all patient contact and communication efforts in the Electronic Health Record (EHR)
Track and report services provided, including no-shows, cancellations, and reschedules
Participate in interpreter training and educational programs to enhance professional skills
Assist with onboarding and training of new Clinical Interpreters
Support KCHC staff in understanding cultural nuances that may impact patient care
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
Adhere to HIPAA regulations and all KCHC policies
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent required
Associate’s degree preferred
Experience:
1–3 years of clinical or professional interpreting experience preferred
Experience with medical terminology, patient communication, and Electronic Health Records preferred
Certifications:
Certified Medical Interpreter credential is a plus
Skills:
Fluent in English and Spanish with strong oral and written communication skills in both languages
Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare procedures
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), internet browsers, and EHR systems
Strong interpersonal and active listening skills
Ability to maintain a professional demeanor, work independently, and collaborate as part of a healthcare team
