Job Title: Health Information Specialist

Job Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Health Information Management (HIM) Manager, this position is responsible for timely and accurate administrative support functions including medical records management, scanning, Protected Health Information (PHI) request, and messaging to clinical staff, non-clinical staff, contract providers and participants.
Specifications
Education: High School Diploma or GED certificate required.
Experience : One year of clerical experience in a medical office setting required. Previous experience working in Medical Records with basic to advance working knowledge of Privacy laws, HIPAA laws, and Release of Information laws.
Additional Required Skills: Knowledge of medical office operations. Requires excellent verbal communication skills. Must be able to work with changing priorities. Requires excellent organizational, problem solving and critical thinking skills. Must be able to interact with individuals of all cultures and levels of authority. Requires the ability to maintain confidentiality. Must be able to function as part of a team. Must possess initiative.
Additional Preferred Skills: Proficient in use of all computer software utilized.

- Interacts with individuals of all cultures and levels of authority through telephonic and in-person encounters.
- Explains policy and procedures to external organizations, participants, and staff.
- Understands and maintains participant confidentiality.
- Performs a variety of complex and routine administrative duties, which include, but are not limited to, data entry, filing, copying, and distributing information.
- Manages priorities and coordinates work in order to complete duties in an accurate and timely fashion.
- Follows-up on pending issues in order to meet required response times.
- Researches and solves difficult questions related to release of health information in an accurate and timely manner.
- Utilizes EMR Systems: Updates records; Scans documents into charts in a timely manner; Queries participant information; & extracts medical records for PHI request.
- Supports Senior TLC’s mission to encourage and support the quality of life of seniors wishing to continue living in the community; its vision to be the preferred provider of individualized care for seniors in the community; and its values of respect, integrity, accountability, compatible goals, and compassionate care.
