Compliance Engineer
Job description: Manage the process for compliance of kiosks to all required and desired approvals, often including UL, FCC and CE markings. The compliance engineer will work closely with the production team to ensure the testing on the line is in compliance with agency requirements and will be responsible for representing KIOSK during any inspections done by the agencies. The compliance engineer will be responsible for maintaining the safety testing lab and equipment. Additionally, the compliance engineer will contribute to product design discussions for all kiosks to ensure safe operation of all products developed by KIOSK Information Systems.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate new products for appropriate standards and establish a test plan for obtaining the proper listings.
- Create submissions package with appropriate system documents for submission to standards agencies.
- Establish preferred design practices for kiosks to improve the ability to pass necessary standards testing.
- Work with engineering team, project management, operations and sales to ensure timely completion of necessary listings to allow product to ship.
- Conduct testing on products to the standards requirements.
- Conduct emissions and susceptibility testing either in-house or at test facilities to ensure compliance with FCC requirements.
- Identify design changes to improve system performance and to allow units to pass testing.
- Complete test reports as necessary on required testing.
- Act as corporate liaison with standards agencies for testing and for manufacturing site inspections.
- Develop educational and marketing materials to assist the sales team in educating customers on the various standards and the listing process.
- Develop manufacturing test procedures to ensure finished products continue to meet standards requirements.
- Maintain the database of kiosks that have obtained standards listings such as UL and CE.
- Establish and maintain a compliance test lab at KIOSK that will allow for in-house testing to standards and reduce cost for external test facilities.
- Establish and execute action plans to address issues that may be identified during site audits.
- Track components that reach end of life and update submissions as necessary to ensure listings remain current.
- Establish and maintain corporate SOPs for standards compliance and product listing.
- Participate in engineering design reviews and provide guidance to the team on designs.
- Develop and apply best practices for system safety (electrical, mechanical) for non-listed kiosks.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills:
- BSEE or equivalent
- 8 years of experience in standards compliance engineering related to product development.
- Standards compliance testing with specific experience in electrical safety testing.
- Knowledge of UL standards and UL listing process and ability to mentor engineering and sales team in best practice approach.
- Ability to create a submission for standards listing that allows flexibility for alternate components.
- Ability to interface in person, via teleconference and via writing with standards agencies.
- Experience/familiarity with CE, ROHS, WEE and other international standards listings.
- Knowledge of various electronic testing equipment and ability to utilize the equipment in system evaluation.
- Experience troubleshooting system design issues and resolving the issues.
- High level of interpersonal relationship skills.
- Experience with on-site audit process for agencies such as UL.
- Ability to navigate the UL website and merge reports, obtain documents from UL library and manage listings.
- Strong writing and documentation skills for establishing clear and concise SOPs and product listing folders.
- Understanding of manufacturing acceptance testing related to hi-pot, ground bond and leakage current.
- Knowledge of requirements to meet IEC Machinery Directive.
Desired Skills:
- MSEE is preferred
- Experience with UL 62368-1
- Experience with FCC part 15 subpart A
Travel:
- Occasional travel to visit customers and vendors or to address field issues may be required. <10%.
