We are looking to fill a position at Kiowa County Memorial Hospital on our EMS team. We are currently seeking EMTs but will consider all certification levels.
Responsibilities include covering 911 calls and interfacility transfers.
Our preference to fill a spot is full time, this averages about 36-40 hours per week. We will still take applicants that are interested in filling in where they can as PRN.

POSITION
Emergency Medical Technician Basic (EMT-B)
SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director of Emergency Medical Services (EMS), the EMT-B is responsible for assessment, treatment and transport of ill or injured patients at the Basic Life Support (BLS) level. This will be accomplished through effective communication, initiative and insight, sound technical and professional knowledge, and promotion of best practices for both internal and external clients.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Certification as KansasEmergency Medical Technician Basic
- Functional experience with computers including experience with the following programs preferred: Windows, MS-Word, Outlook and Internet
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification – required before hire.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of EMS Statutes, Regulations, and Laws on local, state, and federal level.
- Knowledge of KCMH policies and procedures including KCEMS protocols
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Effective critical thinking and problem solving skills
- Ability to provide leadership
- Organizational skills
- Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal/consultative relationships and communication patterns, (i.e.) Conflict Resolution.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensures compliance to all local, state, and federal statutes and regulations as well as all hospital and departmental policies, procedures, protocols, and organizational directives
- Assists in the development of long and short terms goals for the EMS department
- Ensures operational efficiencies in the day to day running of service with respect to equipment and supplies
- Assist with the maintenance of all EMS vehicles, equipment and supplies
- Ensure appropriate stocking levels of all EMSequipment and supplies
- Maintains professional relationship with other public safety agencies within county and within surrounding counties ensuring coordination during multiple agency responses
- Utilizes Incident Command System (ICS) during Multiple Victim Incidents (MVI) or Mass Casualty Incidents (MCI) including incidents with multiple agency responses
- Performs as a crew member on ambulance runs completing tasks required of crew members including, but not limited to responding to calls, providing prehospital patient care, cleaning and restocking of unit and completion of patient care reports
- Handles conflict resolution among EMS personnel
- Any other duties as deemed necessary or delegated by the Director of EMS or the Assistant Director of EMS
SUPERVISION
Reports directly to the Director of Emergency Medical Services
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Medium work: Physical. Strength ability must be sufficient to perform the following tasks on objects weighing at least 150 lb., - lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling and handling. The ability to perform fine finger movements, gripping, and reaching both above and below the shoulder is necessary. Mobility parameters include sitting, standing, walking, running, climbing, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, crawling, twisting, and balancing. Necessary sensory and perceptual abilities include hearing conversations and other sounds including ability to auscultate via a stethoscope. Vision must be accurate at both far and near distances as well as adequate color, depth, spatial, and form perception. The abilities to effectively feel, read, write, and speak, are necessary. Must be able maintain adequate respiration when wearing a HEPA particulate filter. The physical ability and medical clearance to operate motor vehicles in all conditions
ENVIRONMENTAL
Inside work, outside work, hot, cold, humid, dry, dust, vapor, fumes, noise, moving objects, hazardous machines, potentially infectious fluids and equipment, exposure to blood and air borne pathogens, electrical equipment, sharp tools, radiant/thermal energy, slippery, congested work site. Various forms of personal protective equipment; such as gloves, masks, gowns, turnout gear, etc
Parameters include - travel, work alone, work as a team member, work independent but in a group, deadline pressures, performance criteria, interact with public, operate equipment/vehicles, posting at remote locations. Work site may include interaction with correctional facility system. Exposure to critically ill, injured, and deceased persons is typical
TRAINING AFTER HIRE Training programs that apply to position or enhance job performance will be required. Hospital wide inservice attendance will be required. Certification maintenance is required for the duration of employment.
