Duties and Responsibilities
The Radiologic Technologist duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Participate in continuing education requirements and learning experiences to enhance and maintain current knowledge and skills for continued competence.
2. Provide exceptional patient care to patients of all ages.
3. Ensure patient confidentiality, adhering to the guidelines set forth in HIPAA.
4. Adhere to the compliance with radiation safety and protection policies including the code of ALARA.
5. Knowledge of PACS systems and their use in radiographic imaging.
6. Ability to work as a team member and communicate any problems with teammates and/or Radiology Manager.
7. Skilled in the safe operation of stationary and portable radiologic equipment.
8. Perform all routine radiographic procedures including trauma and surgical exams.
9. Perform all DEXA and CT exams within the scope and ability of KDH imaging protocols.
10. Ability to transfer patients to tables, beds and wheelchairs and positioning them as required to obtain adequate imaging. Transferring patients to and from clinic, emergency department and in-patient hospital.
11. Perform all duties using proper body mechanics, including frequently moving/lifting between 50-100 pounds.
12. Stand for long periods of time with frequent twisting, bending, kneeling and reaching to prepare equipment, materials or objects in order to provide quality patient care and environment.
13. Must exhibit manual dexterity and fine motor coordination.
14. Ability to follow directions/instructions from his/her manager and supervisor.
15. Consistent attendance as scheduled to ensure that client facility and patient needs are met.
16. Comply with all facility and Radiology Department policies, procedures and practices.
17. Keep the radiology department clean and presentable, disinfecting area after every patient and making sure clean linens are always used.
18. Assess order requisitions for the appropriateness of procedures and assist provider as necessary.
19. Prepare and administer contrast agents, within the accepted scope of practice and applicable state and federal regulations and begin IV’s as needed. Observe patient for adverse reactions during administration of agents.
20. Follow prescribed techniques in administering radiation for the capturing of X-ray images. Adjust equipment, determine proper kV, mAs and exposure time on a patient by patient basis. Arrange for immobilization and support devices as needed.
21. Perform Quality Control activities to ensure optimal quality and safe imaging.
22. Troubleshoot and report equipment errors/problems to manager.
23. Ability to work well with multiple interruptions and multitasking in a busy and high stress work environment.
24. Work with patient insurances to obtain prior-authorization of exams where required.
25. Work with MRI technologists from mobile unit and ultrasound technologist on scheduling patient exams as needed.
26. Answering telephone calls, scheduling patient exams, and setting up patient exams at outside facilities as needed.
Travel
No travel is expected for this position apart from possible future training/education seminars.
Working Conditions
The Radiologic Technologist must understand and accept the possibility of exposure to inside environmental conditions such as radiation, noise, infectious/communicable diseases, blood and blood borne pathogens/diseases, chemicals and/or chemical fumes, odors, gases and dust. Frequent exposure to distressed patients, families or visitors.
Preferred Education and Experience
1. Completion of a two-year accredited school of Radiology.
2. Must be current and in good standing with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and maintain BLS/CPR requirements.
3. Licensed by the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts.
4. Experience as a working Radiologic Technologist. Some CT experience preferred but not required.
5. Must have typing and computer skills such as the operation of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook email.
This position does require the Radiologic Technologist to be On Call. Working some weekends and holidays will be required.
