Job Description
KIPP Chicago seeks both internal and external candidates for Assistant Principal positions for SY 25-26. Assistant Principals at KIPP Chicago are key members of the school’s Leadership Team and report to the school Principal. While they may have a specific priority focus, Assistant Principals are both instructional and cultural leaders in the school. Assistant Principal development and impact is a key priority for KIPP Chicago and our larger . New Assistant Principals will start July 1, 2025.
At KIPP Chicago, elementary schools include grades K - 4 and middle schools include grades 5 - 8.. Currently, we have eight schools - KIPP Ascend Primary (K - 4), KIPP One Primary (K - 4), KIPP Bloom Primary (K-4), KIPP Academy Chicago Primary (K - 4), KIPP Ascend Middle School (5- 8), KIPP One Academy (5 - 8), KIPP Bloom College Prep (5 - 8), and KIPP Academy Chicago (5 - 8). Applicants for Assistant Principal will be considered for all open roles.
Responsibilities
Each of our KIPP Chicago schools is staffed with multiple Assistant Principals who are both instructional and cultural leaders of the school. Assistant Principals embody and operationalize the mission, vision, and strategic direction of the school to ensure a safe, predictable, and rigorous environment for all students. Depending on campus need, the Assistant Principal may have a majority instructional leadership or cultural leadership focus. Overall responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Instructional Leadership
Ensure Consistent School-wide Routines and Procedures & Safe, Joyful Student Culture that is aligned to KIPP Chicago Excellence Playbook
Drive Strong Student Academic Results in all assigned grades or content areas.
Coach Staff & Developing Peer Leaders to meet or exceed school-wide academic priorities
Ensure accurate, equitable, and timely documentation of student academic priorities
Cultural Leadership Responsibilities
Ensure Consistent School-wide Routines and Procedures & Safe, Joyful Student Culture aligned to KIPP Chicago Excellence Playbook
Drive Strong Student Attendance
Coach Staff, Culture & Academic Leaders to meet or exceed school-wide culture priorities
Ensure accurate, equitable, and timely documentation of student culture priorities
Management Responsibilities
Manage peer leaders and teachers to drive cultural priorities and academic outcomes for students
Conduct weekly one-on-one meetings with all direct reports
Conduct regular classroom observations and provide follow-up feedback during one-on-one meetings and in written form
Communicate teacher performance to the principal, highlighting teachers in need of additional coaching due to insufficient performance
Recognize and celebrate staff professional growth and success
Retain and develop top KIPP talent year over year
Team Responsibilities
Model our commitment to anti-racism in our words and actions
Respond to feedback from formal and informal evaluations completed by teachers and the principal
Receive and respond appropriately to feedback from students, parents and teammates
View feedback as a tool to improve and grow in all teacher responsibilities, and use it in this capacity
Actively pursue own professional development in areas that will have the greatest impact on student achievement
Participate in school-wide professional development, such as content team meetings and one-on-one coaching with manager
Provides classroom coverage for staff members during planned and unplanned time off as an exemplar teacher
Contribute to School-wide Academic, Talent, and Culture Goals as a Leadership Team Member
