Job Description

The Opportunity

The Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) in a school-based setting is responsible for assessing and implementing behavior interventions to support students with behavioral, social, and emotional challenges. The BCBA will work closely with teachers, special education staff, parents, and other professionals to develop individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and ensure the effective implementation of evidence-based behavioral strategies. This role requires expertise in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) techniques to improve student outcomes and foster a positive learning environment. The Board Certified Behavioral Analyst at KIPP Columbus provides crucial support and services to students with disabilities.

The Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) will be licensed by the Ohio Department of Education & Workforce with a minimum of 3 years experience as a school-based BCBA.

A summary of responsibilities include, but not limited to :

Conduct functional behavioral assessments (FBAs) to identify the underlying causes and functions of students' challenging behaviors.

Analyze data from multiple sources, including observations, interviews, and standardized assessments, to develop a comprehensive understanding of student behavior.

Evaluate students’ progress and make data-driven decisions regarding the effectiveness of behavior interventions.

Collaborate with educators, special education staff, and parents to develop individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs) tailored to the needs of each student.

Design evidence-based interventions grounded in the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to address students' specific behavioral, social, and academic challenges.

Ensure that BIPs are implemented consistently across settings, including classrooms, lunchrooms, playgrounds, and other school environments.

Provide direct one-on-one or small group behavior intervention services to students as needed.

Offer ongoing consultation to school staff on the implementation of behavior interventions and strategies, ensuring fidelity and effectiveness in all settings.

Assist in crisis intervention and de-escalation when challenging behaviors occur, providing immediate support and guidance to staff.

Train teachers, paraprofessionals, and other staff on implementing behavior interventions, data collection methods, and strategies for managing challenging behaviors in the classroom.

Provide ongoing support and feedback to staff to ensure that behavioral interventions are consistently applied and refined.

Lead professional development workshops and in-service training on ABA principles, behavior management strategies, and evidence-based practices.

Develop and monitor systems for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting behavioral data to track student progress toward behavioral goals.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of behavioral interventions, assessments, and student progress.

Use data to adjust behavior intervention plans and ensure that interventions are effective and responsive to students' needs.

Work closely with teachers, special education staff, and administrators to ensure that behavior interventions are aligned with students' academic goals and IEPs.

Collaborate with parents and guardians to provide regular updates on students' progress and behavior plans, offering strategies for generalization of behaviors at home.

Participate in IEP meetings and other multidisciplinary team meetings to provide recommendations for behavior goals and interventions.

Ensure that all behavior interventions are in compliance with state and federal regulations, including those related to special education, IDEA, and ethical standards for ABA practice.

Prepare and submit reports on behavioral assessments, intervention plans, and student progress to the appropriate school personnel and parents.

Maintain confidentiality of all student records and ensure compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

Assist with crisis management and intervention as necessary, including providing de-escalation techniques and strategies for addressing high-risk behaviors.

Train school staff in safe and effective crisis intervention techniques.

Supervise Registered Behavior Technicians

Qualifications

Minimum of 3 years experience as a school-based BCBA

Active Certified Ohio Behavior Analyst license through the State Board of Psychology of Ohio

Active board certification from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board

Experience in conducting functional behavioral assessments (FBAs) and developing behavior intervention plans (BIPs).

Knowledge of special education law, IEP development, and the IDEA regulations

Strong understanding of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles and techniques.

Excellent data collection, analysis, and reporting skills.

Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including teachers, administrators, and parents.

Strong problem-solving, crisis management, and de-escalation skills.

Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.

Ability to train and mentor school staff on ABA techniques and behavioral interventions.

Ability to move throughout the school building and engage with students in various school environments (e.g., classrooms, playgrounds, lunchrooms).

Physical ability to participate in crisis intervention when necessary.

Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time, and to participate in activities that may involve bending, lifting, or interacting at the student's level

Ability to persevere with a sense of optimism, strong problem solving skills, and desire to learn and grow in a collaborative professional learning community

Willingness, and commitment, to go above and beyond to prove the possible with students.

Ability to multi-task and work within an ambiguous, fast-moving, start-up environment, while driving toward clarity and solutions

Excellent communication and collaboration skills
