Position Overview
The Assistant Principal assumes the primary responsibility for supporting a school culture that sets high-expectations and empowers students to develop the knowledge, skills, and character traits necessary to pursue a choice-filled life. As an instructional coach, and through the direct coaching of teachers, the Assistant Principal will focus on maximizing school-wide academic growth and character development. In partnership with the Principal, the Assistant Principal will ensure that teachers and students feel well supported in their daily work. The Assistant Principal has a strong understanding of race and equity, and is passionate about developing teachers to become stronger leaders. This position requires an organized and consistent educator with a concrete vision of excellence, adult leadership experience, the ability to build outstanding relationships with students, teachers, and families, and a talent for building a school culture. The Assistant Principal will report to the Principal.
Day in the life” responsibilities will include, but are not limited to :
Student Culture
- Work closely with the Principal to establish a loving, structured, and achievement-oriented school culture
- Facilitate faculty training and support around discipline, relationships, expectations, consistency, and management
- Coordinate and implement a school-wide discipline system with meaningful incentives and consequences in multi-class settings (i.e. buses, arrival, dismissal, breakfast, lunch, and recess)
- Act as the first contact for student behavior support that are flagged by teachers
- Conduct regular school culture walkthroughs and audits to help staff maintain a high bar of excellence
- Problem-solve with students, teachers, and families to improve behavior of individual students over time
Engage Families
Proactively builds and maintains strong relationships with all families beginning in the summer and serves as a model for strong family engagement in the schoolDevelop ongoing professional learning experiences to build the skill of strong family engagement in staffAssist teachers to develop strong partnerships with parents by enhancing communicationsWork closely with faculty to develop strategic plans to monitor family engagement and act proactivelyDesign and execute plan for involving parents in students’ academic and character developmentConduct meetings with students and familiesEstablish and maintain strong communication lines with all parents and share progressBe available for open houses, parent-teacher conferences and other events involving parentsLead ongoing parent workshops focused on academics and characterInstructional Excellence and Management
Coach teachers toward development goals related to classroom culture, management and instruction once a week, as well as deliver instructional professional development school-wideProvide feedback on aims and assessments weeklyConduct data meetings with teachers after each benchmark assessment, and monitor overall academic progress for studentsAssist in writing and revising benchmark assessmentsAssist Principal in coordinating and managing state, MAP and interim assessmentsGrowth Mindset

Qualifications :
Evidence of significant and consistent personal and professional achievementBachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred3 year(s) of experience as a classroom teacher with a proven record of high achievement AND1 year(s) experience leading and / or coaching teachers, including but limited to roles such as Assistant Principal, Principal, Dean of Instruction, Dean of Academics, Instructional Coach, Teacher CoachDesired Qualities

Compensation and Benefits
Salary is commensurate with experience, and includes benefits. This position is exempt and will work and be compensated according to a 12 month administrative schedule.Robust benefits package including medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance policy options. Application for these benefits may be made immediately upon employment. The policy is effective upon the first of the month following the first day of work.Certificated staff have access to the Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System pension plan(TCRS). Eligible employees contribute 5% and KIPP matches up to 6.81%. Employees may also be eligible for 401k in which KIPP will contribute 5%.The vacation package for salaried employees includes 29 paid days throughout the 10 month work schedule(including holidays, fall break, thanksgiving break, winter break) as well as summer break. In addition employees in this role are allotted 6 PTO days as well as 10 additional days to take during the summer break. Employees are allotted an additional 2 days after every 2 consecutive years of employment.
