Job Description

In the position of Discipline and Restorative Practices Manager, you will be working with the Senior Director of Discipline and Restorative practices to implement the strategic direction for Discipline and Restorative Practices at KTX. He/she will work cooperatively with regional and school leaders, school-based staff as well as the KTX team to assist in the development and ensure the implementation of Tier 1 school practices, behavioral intervention systems, and restorative discipline practices throughout KIPP Texas. They will also coach discipline managers in schools on both regular intervals and as needed basis. As a member of KIPP Texas' state team, you will take responsibility for nurturing relationships and promoting collaboration with families, community members, and external partners.

General Role Description

  • Development: Work cooperatively with school and regional teams to determine best practices across the region and develop exemplars for Discipline and Restorative practices that include strong Tier 1 management systems, anonymous alerts, classroom management, etc. Also provide professional development around disciplinary practices, policies, and procedures. 

  • Coaching: Work to support school and regional teams by spending approximately 50% of his/her time in schools working directly with teams to improve discipline and behavior management systems. Directly coach discipline managers in schools. 

  • Content Expert: Be a content expert for Discipline and Restorative Practices in many different spaces, including regional, state, and school meetings and situations. 

  • Crisis Response: Support schools during high level behavioral situations and crises, and work closely with the school based mental health team to provide support for students and staff.  

Duties and Essential Job Functions

  • Build an awareness for restorative discipline across the organization and directly coach and support discipline managers and school leaders in regions;

  • Develop and facilitate professional development on restorative practices for regional and campus-based teams;

  • Build restorative mindsets and capacity for school staff, students, and community stakeholders, to implement the following Restorative Practices:

    • Restorative responses

    • Restorative conversations

    • Talking circles

    • Peace circles

    • Peer conferences

    • Re-entry circles

    • Restorative conferences

  • Support a framework for student disciplinary meetings and peer mediation and other restorative practices/responses to student disciplinary concerns;

  • Provide support in high-level discipline situations including expulsions, including supporting with paperwork review, investigations, and restorative responses;

  • Collaborates with MTSS and SPED departments to ensure Tier 2 and Tier 3 students receive appropriate accommodations and supports to lessen discipline occurrences.

  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge

  • Certification as a Restorative Practitioner from a state or nationally recognized organization

  • Understanding of the school disciplinary process and policies

  • Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations related to discipline and student behavior

  • Understanding of the impact of trauma on student behavior

  • Familiarity with data analysis and evidence-based practices in behavior management

  • Understanding of discipline preventative practices as well as social and emotional learning practices.

  • Knowledge of adolescent development stages

  • Ability to clearly articulate and sell a vision, outline and detail a project plan, and follow up the articulations and outlines with thorough execution

  • Proven writing, verbal communication, and presentation skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint)

  • Proficiency in using computers, printers, copy machines, and fax machines

  • Commitment to the mission and vision of KIPP Texas

  • Required:  Leading or supporting multiple schools through a new initiative or change

  • Preferred:  Leadership in managing a team or school

  • Flexibility and adaptability in response to changing circumstances

  • Considerable time is spent at a desk using a computer/laptop

  • Attending conferences or training sessions 

Education

  • Required:  Bachelors and/or Master’s degree or higher in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Education 

  • Preferred: 3-5 years of experience working in education

Work Environment  

  • Typical office environment with frequent interruptions

Travel Requirements

  • Ability to travel to various locations, travel time approximately 25% - 35%

Salary is based on years of experience, degree of education, and level of expertise.
