Job Description
ESL Position Overviews:
The ESL Teacher at KIPP Tulsa plays a critical role in supporting English Learners by providing targeted instruction through small group teaching and individual pullouts as needed.
The ESL Teacher designs and delivers lessons that drive all learners toward mastery while adapting the ESL curriculum to foster English language development across key linguistic domains. By creating and effectively communicating accommodations and modifications to relevant stakeholders, the ESL Teacher ensures that English Learners have full access to academic content.
As a case manager, the ESL Teacher is responsible for the initial screening of English Learners, ongoing progress monitoring and support, maintaining clear and proactive communication with parents, and advocating for students as needed.
Through the dedication of our ESL Teachers, English Learners at KIPP Tulsa experience significant social and academic growth, equipping them with the language skills necessary for success in school and beyond.
Key ESL Teaching Skills/ Responsibilities:
Daily:
- Execute KIPP Tulsa ESL Curriculum with fidelity.
- Execute daily exit ticket & update tracker to inform re-teach.
- Execute urgent ESL teacher schedule with fidelity (high-impact small group instruction).
- Posts and communicates clear objectives, CFS, and an engaging agenda for the lesson aligned to the ESL curriculum so kids know what is to be learned, why it is to be learned, and how it is to be learned.
Weekly:
- Ability to unpack curriculum objectives & develop backward plans to create a Week at a Glance that targets EL instructional needs.
- Develop an exemplary exit ticket for each small group.
- Attend and engage in ELA Professional Development learning opportunities.
Ongoing:
- Ability to complete compliance in a timely manner (WIDA screener, WIDA ACCESS, and Home Language Surveys).
- Ability to analyze student achievement data on Summit K12 and develop strategic teaching plans that target student gaps.
- Ability to navigate ESL Specific platforms (Summit K12 and ELLevation).
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with students, colleagues, families, and other key stakeholders.
- Establish & maintain organization systems for EL Student Records maintenance.
- Ability to communicate and collaborate with families to ensure partnership & transparency in supporting EL Students.
- Collaborate with School Operations to ensure the school utilizes Language Access Tools to communicate with LEP families.
- Administer WIDA screener and WIDA ACCESS
Professional Expectations – may include travel between schools on occasion
Qualifications
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in ESL education from an accredited four-year college or university
- Valid Oklahoma Teaching Certificate with required certification for subject and level assigned, if applicable*
- Demonstrated knowledge of the core subject area assigned
- Satisfactory outcome of a background check. Employees are responsible for a non-refundable fingerprinting fee (approximately $60).
*Applicants currently pursuing a certification may apply before certification is received. All certifications must be acquired and on file with KIPP Tulsa before the end of the first year of employment. *

Compensation and Benefits:
This is a Full-Time, 10-month teaching position.
Employees are eligible to participate in employer benefits including health, dental, life, accidental death and dismemberment, short and long term disability and participation in Oklahoma Teacher Retirement plans.
